Image Credit: RufRemarkably, it has been 50 years since Ruf Automobile launched its first-ever tuned Porsche. It has since become a household name in the tuning world, with cars such as the Ruf CTR Yellowbird shooting them to legendary status. Despite everything they have achieved, they are clearly not ready to slow down. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the ideal time for automotive manufacturers to reveal their new creations. Ruf is no exception, and the company is to publicly demonstrate a new prototype for the very first time. Say hello to the incredible Ruf B8 Erprober. This is a lengthened version of the CTR3 test vehicle, which the company used to validate new technologies that it is planning to use in future Ruf models. Don't worry if you aren't a fan of electric cars, however. This monster features good old combustion power, thanks to a turbocharged flat-eight engine.AdvertisementAdvertisementIt won't just be static at Goodwood either. It is set to make several runs up the hillclimb during the festival, and American racing legend Tanner Faust will be at the wheel of the new supercar. Ruf has certainly come a long way from the early days of over 50 years ago. What Makes the Ruf B8 Such a Special Car?Image Credit: RufIt is what lies under the hood that makes this such a special machine. There is no hybrid assistance here, as the B8 features a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged flat-eight engine. This pumps out a whopping 1,000hp+ and 738lb-ft of torque. Enthusiasts will also love that it has a six-speed manual transmission, perfect for throwing it around tight corners or on a racetrack. It is a sign of how far the company has come that it is now building vehicles from the ground up. When the company first started, it made a name for itself by modifying existing Porsche sports cars. Things have changed now, with cars like the CTR Anniversary boasting an all-new chassis. This even included the axles, suspension, and the subframe to make it a true Ruf sports car.Image Credit: RufThe car is set to make six runs up the hill during the event, and it will be adorned in a special livery. This has been designed by Aloisa Ruf in collaboration with Optima batteries, and it pays tribute to the iconic CRT Yellowbird. It will certainly catch the eye, especially as the UK is currently in the midst of a heatwave bringing glorious sunshine and clear blue skies. The Best Cars That Ruf Has Ever ProducedImage Credit: RufIt's difficult to narrow down the best cars that Ruf has ever produced. Purely because the company has produced so many iconic motors over the years, there are some that stand out more than others. The 1978 SCR being one of them, powered by an enlarged 3.2-liter flat-six producing 215hp, yet maintaining the same fuel economy as the Porsche's original 3.0-liter engine. Ruf also gave the SCR its own bespoke five-speed manual transmission.Image Credit: RufAdvertisementAdvertisementWe have to mention the CTR Yellowbird. It is easily the most famous of Ruf's creations and the most iconic. It too had a five-speed transmission, but this car produced a whopping 469hp and 408lb-ft of torque. Yet many say the 469hp figure is conservative, and that the CTR actually outputs over 500hp in reality. With a top speed of 210mph, it was faster than a Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Diablo, and even the Porsche 959. That is the level that Ruf has operated at for over five decades. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
