The Arcfox Alpha T5 Robotaxi fleet has surpassed 600 units, allowing Pony.ai to reach its 2025 scaling target ahead of schedule and supporting a goal of 3,000 Robotaxis by end-2026. On January 12, Pony.ai and BAIC New Energy announced that they had reached an agreement on January 10 to comprehensively deepen their strategic partnership, marking the transition of their cooperation into a Phase 2 stage. Pony.ai and BAIC New Energy sign a Strategic Cooperation 2.0 agreement. Building on their successful experience in large-scale production and operation of L4 Robotaxis, the two companies plan to significantly expand both the breadth and depth of their collaboration, with a focus on the mass production, commercialization, and global deployment of autonomous driving technologies. Over the past several years, the partners have completed a critical transition from prototype validation to scaled deployment centered on the Arcfox Alpha T5 Robotaxi, laying a solid practical foundation for the upgraded cooperation. Arcfox Alpha T5 Robotaxi, co-developed by Pony.ai and BAIC New Energy At the product level, the partnership will no longer be limited to a single model. Starting from their existing mass-production experience, the two sides will pursue forward-looking development of purpose-built L4 autonomous driving vehicles and gradually expand the Robotaxi product portfolio. At the same time, autonomous driving technologies already validated in Robotaxi operations will be extended into premium intelligent driving systems for passenger vehicles, following a standard of “factory-installed and mass-producible” solutions. BAIC New Energy VP Zhang Guofu speaks at the cooperation ceremony From a market perspective, the partners have explicitly stated plans to replicate Robotaxi operating models proven in China’s tier-one cities in overseas markets. The Arcfox Alpha T5 Robotaxi and its operating system will serve as a benchmark model for entry into regions including the Middle East and Europe. Pony.ai has previously established operations across eight countries, including Luxembourg, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and South Korea. These localized deployments and infrastructure capabilities are expected to provide critical support for the latest phase of international expansion. On the industrial collaboration front, the two companies will deepen cooperation across the supply chain. Leveraging BAIC New Energy’s OEM system, they plan to optimize L4 vehicle performance, maintenance efficiency and total lifecycle costs, with the aim of reducing Robotaxi manufacturing and operating expenses. Ecosystem and capital-level cooperation will also advance in parallel. BAIC New Energy will coordinate mobility platforms and aftermarket resources within its broader group to integrate more closely with Pony.ai’s Robotaxi fleet, while further strengthening capital collaboration in technology development, supply chains and overseas markets on top of existing cross-investments. Zhang Ning, vice president of Pony.ai and head of its Robotaxi business speaks at the cooperation ceremony In terms of operational progress, Zhang Ning, vice president of Pony.ai and head of its Robotaxi business, said that the Arcfox Alpha T5 Robotaxi jointly developed and manufactured by the two partners has exceeded 600 units in mass production. This milestone has enabled Pony.ai to achieve its 2025 target of a “1,000-vehicle scale” ahead of schedule and provides tangible support for its plan to deploy 3,000 Robotaxis by the end of 2026. The Arcfox Alpha T5 Robotaxi is currently in operation in areas including Beijing E-Town, Shenzhen’s Nanshan and Bao’an districts, covering high-frequency travel scenarios such as airports and high-speed rail stations. Further expansion into additional tier-one cities is planned.
