The brand has announced it is reviving an eye-catching retro-inspired version of the compact 4×4 Down Under. The Suzuki Jimny has remained forbidden fruit to American drivers since the brand left the US market in 2012, and that's especially stinging recently.First, the Gozel concept was approved for production. Then, Australia got a new Rhino version with ruggedized touches. Now, as if to twist the knife even deeper, Suzuki has revived one of its coolest versions of the Jimny in the Heritage. The Heritage takes the already awesome Jimny looks to the next level. - Credit: SuzukiSuzuki's revived Jimny HeritageIf the name sounds familiar, that's because this isn't the first time Heritage treatment has tempted from afar.It revisits a Jimny look that my colleague Johnny Brayson covered when Suzuki spun off an XL version, and that rig was also itself a revival (of the first three-door).In any event, I share his sentiments, and the brand has good cause to give the Heritage an encore. When the model first went on sale back in 2023, the 300-unit run supposedly sold out in just five hours.Suzuki's Jimny Heritage also gets special badging on the rear quarters. - Credit: SuzukiSuzuki's new three-door Heritage differs from its predecessor in two key regards. In addition to (obviously) sporting different individualized numbers (301-600 vs 1-300), Suzuki will offer all of them exclusively with automatic transmissions. That's a big departure from previous Heritage treatments. Before, Suzuki only offered its retro-styled Jimny with a stick shift, regardless of three- or five-door configuration. The red mud flaps add a distinctly old school touch and really stand out on certain colors. - Credit: SuzukiWhile that means the new Heritage promises to be an easier drive than its predecessors, the move doesn't compromise the retro charm. The rest of the treatment carries over, making it no less compelling in its visuals. As such, Jimny wears unique old-school stripes, a vintage-style badge, red mud flaps and various other callbacks to the SJ-series Jimnys of the 1980s and 1990s. It also gets an "exclusive Jimny Heritage pack."All 300 examples of the Jimny Heritage will be automatic. - Credit: SuzukiAvailability and pricingThe 2027 Jimny Heritage is available in Australia only, solely with an automatic transmission paired to a 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder rated for 101 horsepower and 96 lb-ft of torque.Priced at AUD $42,490, that works out to roughly $29,500. That makes it all the more tempting, though I wouldn't expect to find one waiting around when it's eventually import-eligible one day; allocation is limited to 300 units.2027 Suzuki Jimny Heritage Learn More About the Author: Gray is an associate editor at Gear Patrol, covering cars, motorcycles and anything else with wheels.
