Updated Suzuki SV650 Confirmed For 2027Motorcycle.comDennis ChungWed, September 9, 2026 at 4:23 AM UTCAdd us on GoogleWill share updated engine with SV-7GXupdated suzuki sv650 confirmed for 2027The iconic Suzuki SV650 will live on, receiving a significant update for 2027, including the new version of the 645cc V-Twin engine that debuted on the SV-7GX. The SV650 remains part of Suzuki's U.S. lineup in 2026, but it had been discontinued in Europe due to Euro5+ standards. With the update, the new SV650 will be returning to the European market, while continuing its lineage in the U.S. for at least another generation. The confirmation comes to us via an executive order issued by the California Air Resources Board that adds the new SV650 to the SV-7GX's certification. The executive order identifies the new model with the code "SV650RQM7", which differs from the 2026 model's code of "SV650AM6." Per Suzuki's typical model code structure, the "M7" stands for 2027, while the letters "RQ" has been used to denote all of its street-focused models using a new engine since the GSX-8S debuted in 2023 with the code "GSX800RQM3."updated suzuki sv650 confirmed for 2027The SV650's addition confirms it will use the same engine and emissions control systems as the SV-7GX, including a second O2 sensor and a new catalyst. We can also expect the SV650 to receive a ride-by-wire throttle and selectable ride modes like the GX, plus modern electronic aids like traction control and a bi-direction quickshifter. The SV-7GX's 4.2-inch TFT display will also likely be part of the package.updated suzuki sv650 confirmed for 2027Beyond that, the CARB executive order does not reveal if anything else has changed with the SV650's styling or its chassis. When Suzuki replaced the SV650 with the Gladius in 2006, it introduced a sleeker and curvier look that proved polarizing - though the name change was likely the cause of much of the uproar - so Suzuki should tread carefully with any design changes.AdvertisementAdvertisementWe'll have to wait for Suzuki's official announcement to learn what else has changed with the SV650. Expect the 2027 Suzuki SV650 to debut at EICMA in November.Become a Motorcycle.com insider. Get the latest motorcycle news first by subscribing to our newsletter here.
