Nissan will host a major product presentation on April 14. The event could preview the next generation of the Skyline. It will likely ride on an updated version of the current platform. Nissan is preparing for a major strategic announcement on April 14. The event will be livestreamed from Japan, and it’s expected to pull back the curtain on several new models, including possibly a new Skyline. The current V37 Nissan Skyline, sold as the Infiniti Q50 in the US, dates back to 2014. While the sedan has received updates over the years, it is in desperate need of a replacement. Nissan has already confirmed there will be a successor. In terms of design, the new Skyline will reportedly remain faithful to its sedan roots, and a sister model to the upcoming Infiniti Q50S is likely. An SUV variant is also believed to be under development, broadening its appeal. It is worth noting that Nissan has offered a Skyline Crossover in the past, in the form of a rebadged Infiniti EX37. Nissan Skyline 400R Limited Judging from the financial state of Nissan and the lack of new RWD platforms within the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, the next Skyline will likely ride on an upgraded version of the existing architecture rather than a clean-sheet design. After all, Nissan followed the same strategy with the current Z sports car. The powertrain lineup is expected to include at least one electrified option, integrating the best e-Power tech that Nissan has to offer. A hybrid setup would allow the next Skyline to comply with Japan’s strict emission regulations while safeguarding its future. Having said that, we would be surprised if the new generation didn’t use the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that powers the existing sedan. The mill generates 400 hp (298 kW / 405 PS) in the latest 400R Limited special edition and up to 414 hp (309 kW / 420 PS) in the Skyline 400R Nismo. Nissan Skyline Nismo According to the Re:Nissan strategy announced in May 2025, development times for new vehicles will be reduced to 30 months. Based on that, Japanese media Response speculates that a new Skyline could hit the roads in the second half of 2027, with Creative Trend claiming it could arrive early in the year. Other Announcements Besides the new Skyline, the event will likely provide updates on the upcoming launch of the P16-generation Kicks in Japan, as well as the new Elgrand minivan. Both of these models will be fitted with e-Power hybrid tech, with the combustion engine acting like a generator and the electric motor moving the wheels. Finally, we also expect news for future models and technologies destined for global markets. The “Nissan Vision Announcement” will be broadcast on YouTube on April 14 at 10:00 local time, which translates to April 13 at 9:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.
