Image: Mercedes-AMGAlthough many details about the GT Four-Door Coupé – such as system performance, battery specifications, or range – remain undisclosed, Mercedes-AMG has revealed more information about the model, which is set to make its global debut in the USA this May.The GT Four-Door Coupé was first unveiled last November on the sidelines of a Formula 1 race in Las Vegas. At the time, a heavily camouflaged prototype was presented, and actor Brad Pitt was announced as the face of the model. In March, Mercedes-Benz then revealed the interior of the GT Four-Door Coupé.Now, Mercedes-AMG has successfully completed winter testing of the GT Four-Door Coupé at its test centre in Arjeplog, Sweden. There, several near-production prototypes were put through their paces in sub-zero temperatures on both snow-covered roads and the icy surfaces of frozen lakes.During winter testing, the manufacturer also hinted at some of the vehicle’s technical highlights: for the first time, the all-wheel-drive system AMG Performance 4MATIC+ will be used in a fully electric sports car, featuring three axial flux motors combined with directly cooled battery cells. The battery concept enables high performance to be delivered repeatedly, as well as high energy absorption during charging, even in freezing conditions. It is worth noting that Mercedes-AMG already extensively tested the technologies for such a fully electric four-door performance vehicle last year using the test carrier Concept AMG GT XX. This concept car set several records and covered a distance of 40,075 km in just eight days, while maintaining an optimal sustained speed of 300 km/h – placing significant demands on the hardware. The prototypes were equipped with three axial flux motors from Mercedes’ subsidiary Yasa and a directly cooled battery – “technologies that will go into series production next year as part of the high-performance architecture AMG.EA,” as Mercedes-AMG stated at the time. The GT Four-Door Coupé, which is expected to be the first production model based on the new AMG.EA platform—short for AMG Electric Architecture—is set to begin production and deliveries later this year. AMG also plans to launch an electric SUV on this architecture, with testing already underway since the end of 2024.mercedes-benz.com
