making sense of the triumph scrambler s alphabet soupIn early 2024, like January 2, 2024, we got our first taste of the latest update to the Triumph Scrambler 1200 family. Previously, Triumph used the "XC" and "XE" branding to differentiate the base model 1200 from the model with more off-road performance intention. Moving into the future, the folks at Hinckley chose to drop the "C" in favor of a standalone Scrambler 1200 X for the base model, bringing it further in line with the company's Scrambler 400 X line. Additionally, Triumph lowered the price and skewed the X model more toward tarmac than the revamped XE - which remains the more off-road performance oriented of the two.Triumph continues to expand its Scrambler line, currently offering the two aforementioned 1200s, a Scrambler 900, and a Scrambler 400 X. To keep the broth a touch murky though, Triumph released a Scrambler 400 XC. More than just a styling exercise of the base model, the 400 XC receives some tasteful bolt-on bits and bobs, tubeless wire-spoke wheels, engine protection, and a racy color scheme. Expect to see the 400 XC land in dealerships next month.Become a Motorcycle.com insider. Get the latest motorcycle news first by subscribing to our newsletter here.
