Lotus today announced Focus 2030, its revised business strategy that will see it scale back on its electric vehicle (EV) plans in favour of a multi-powertrain approach. The debut of the Eletre X Hybrid, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the all-electric Eletre, served as the starting point for this pivot. According to the company, the new strategy is meant to address evolving regulatory and consumer landscapes, which have seen EV uptake drop in certain regions. This will see the company’s portfolio feature internal combustion (ICE), PHEV and EV models, with the mix for electrified offerings being approximately 60% PHEV and 40% EV. It adds that its current models will continue to feature in its line-up moving forward, including the Emira (ICE) which is set to receive an update in the coming weeks to be even more powerful and lighter. On the EV side, we will continue to see the Eletre, Emeya and Evija, while the PHEV camp is occupied by the aforementioned Eletre X Hybrid. The company’s hybrid technology will also be further developed for use in a new supercar currently codenamed Type 135. Set to debut in 2028, this all-new model will receive a V8 hybrid powertrain delivering over 1,000 PS and be manufactured in Europe. Further details about the Type 135 will be announced later this year, although its actual name has already been accidentally revealed by Lotus themselves.
