At the time, it caused a ruckus, and some rival automakers questioned the validity of the record. In 2026, ahead of its August 14 debut at The Quail during Monterey Car Week in California, the yet-to-be-revealed Lamborghini Revuelto SV has set "the fastest lap ever recorded by a production car at the Hockenheimring" in Germany, with Lamborghini factory and test driver Marco Mapelli setting a time of 1:41.6. But this record is also raising eyebrows, and Lamborghini's time isn't actually the outright quickest a road-legal car has set around the course.Lamborghini Beats Mercedes While Losing To MercedesLamborghiniWhile the Revuelto SV's lap time of 1:41.6 is quicker than that set by the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (1:43.3), it's slower than the McLaren Senna's time of 1:40.79 and a couple of seconds off the pace of the Mercedes-AMG ONE (1:38.56). We reached out to Lamborghini to find out why it considers the Revuelto SV's lap time a new record for production cars, and this is what the Italian automaker had to say:AdvertisementAdvertisement"The Revuelto SV set its lap time on the Hockenheim Grand Prix circuit, using the same layout on which the Mercedes-AMG ONE recorded its time. However, our claim refers specifically to the Revuelto SV as the fastest production super sports car at Hockenheim. The AMG ONE is a limited-production hypercar, with a fundamentally different technical concept, production volume, and price positioning."In other words, Lamborghini feels that its Revuelto SV is not as extreme or as exclusive as the AMG ONE, nor will it be as costly. For the record, the AMG ONE was priced around $2.72 million, and production was limited to 275 units, so is Lamborghini implying its hardcore Revuelto SV won't be limited in production, or at least that more than 275 will be made? That remains to be seen, but finessing the wordplay to claim a record feels a little deceptive.Lamborghini Revuelto SV Expected To Get Big PowerLamborghini Revuelto SV Hockenheimring Record (1:27)Recent reports claim the Revuelto SV will make as much as 1,065 horsepower from its 6.5-liter V12 hybrid powertrain, beating the 1,049-hp AMG ONE, though it's likely to be considerably heavier than the German hypercar. Other rumors suggest between 1,200 and 1,400 hp will be delivered to all four wheels of the Lambo, though we'd take these with a pinch of salt, since the Revuelto is still in its relative infancy, and Sant'Agata will doubtless want to launch even more hardcore special editions in the coming years. Regardless, other new Lambos are expected before 2026 comes to a close, with a convertible Temerario Spyder among the upcoming launches. A grand tourer with four seats is also expected to join the Lamborghini ranks before long, but we'll likely only learn more about that next year.LamborghiniLamborghiniLamborghiniLamborghiniAdvertisementAdvertisementThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Aug 7, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
