It doesn't matter which of the big three you pledge your loyalty to; we're all in agreement that the A12 Road Runner is one of the greatest muscle cars of all time. From the iconic fiberglass hood to the legendary powertrain, they are as badass as it gets. Do you really want to own an authentic one, though? Plymouth made just under 1,500 of them, and who knows how many have survived. A car that rare puts a lot of stress on the owner. That's what makes clones like the A12 tribute over at Vanguard Motor Sales so special. Immaculate A12 Road Runner Tribute Vanguard Motor SalesVanguard Motor Sales deals in American muscle cars. Its inventory is stocked with some of the greatest examples you'll ever see. This A12 Road Runnerclone is exactly what I'm talking about. It's a tribute to one of the most iconic cars that ever left Detroit. The body is as straight as an arrow and the interior is as clean as it gets. This thing looks better than it did when it left the factory and just looking at it has me raring to get into some trouble. The A12 Road Runner was the baddest muscle car of the '60s. While this Mopar machine didn't come with a Hemi under the hood, it was touting a 440 that was worked up to beat the brakes off of anything that opposed it. Compression was high, and it was breathing through the infamous 440 Six-Barrel setup. The A12 Road Runner was an absolute torque monster that made even the 426 sweat when it rolled off the assembly line halfway through the '69 model year. Ronnie Martin famously drove one into the 12s, making them the fastest factory-equipped muscle cars of the era.Vanguard Motor Sales This isn't an original A12 car, but it's a pretty stellar tribute. We do have to deduct some points for the lack of black steel wheels, like it would have had from the factory, but it's still over-the-top in every way. It's got the right hood, the right intake, the right Dana 60 rear, and the craftsmanship is absolutely tremendous. This is a rotisserie restoration, so even the undercarriage is incredibly clean. While we're not given the date on the motor or many details other than it has the Six-Barrel intake, I'm willing to bet it's built to the appropriate spec. The builders went through the trouble to make sure everything else was as it would have been from the factory. I feel comfortable in saying this 440 Six-Barrel is pumping out the 390 horsepower and 490 ft-lb of torque Plymouth claimed it made in '69. The thing about these Six-Pack cars is that the tune was just all right out of the box. The right adjustments could really wake them up and turn them into absolute tyrants in the quarter-mile. A Car Built Right Vanguard Motor Sales Now for the splash of cold water. The asking price of $159,900 puts an abrupt end to most of our daydreams of owning this immaculate '69 Plymouth Road Runner.
