Which VW Tiguan Gets You the Most for Your Money?Volkswagen (Volkswagen)If you're wondering which version of the VW Tiguan to buy, we recommend the SEL R-Line Turbo trim level. The SEL R-Line Turbo is the only Tiguan that offers a 268-hp turbo four engine, and it comes with standard all-wheel drive.Because the SEL R-Line Turbo is already fully loaded and offers no factory options, all the buyer has to do is choose exterior and interior colors.See Our Comprehensive Volkswagen Tiguan Make-Model PageShop New Cars | Shop Used CarsAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Volkswagen Tiguan is a competent, spacious compact crossover SUV that's also pretty fun to drive. Choosing the right one from among the four available trims, however, can feel like a chore. That's where we come in. If you're shopping for a new Tiguan, we can save you some time by recommending the trim level and options that pack the best value.Which Tiguan Trim Level Is the Best?We don't always recommend the most powerful version of a car, but that's the case with the VW Tiguan. This utility's base engine is fine, but we prefer the 268-hp 2.0-liter that's only available on the top trim level, the SEL R-Line Turbo. Price of entry: $44,560.Along with the more powerful engine, this trim level brings standard all-wheel drive, leather upholstery, massaging front seats, an even bigger center touchscreen, a 12-speaker premium audio system, and a 360-degree camera system. It also adds heat for the rear outboard seats, a three-zone automatic climate control system, and a heated, sound-insulated windshield. Except for all-wheel drive, none of those items are available on nonturbo Tiguans. If you don't need the extra grunt, the SE R-Line Black with the 201-hp version of the 2.0-liter engine is similarly satisfying—just not as quick or feature-laden. You'll save almost $6K that way.Volkswagen (Volkswagen)What Options Should You Consider? With the SEL R-Line Turbo sitting at the top of Mount Tiguan, there are no options beyond paint and interior colors. If it's not in the Turbo, the Tiguan doesn't offer it.What Do You Miss Out On in the Higher Trim Levels? As mentioned, the R-Line SEL Turbo is the top Tiguan trim level. Were you to select any of the other three trims—S, SE, or SE R-Line Black—you get the standard 201-hp engine, a choice of front- or all-wheel drive, a 12.9-inch center display, and heated front seats. From there, the SE adds niceties like a power liftgate, remote engine start, and larger wheels, plus it swaps in faux leather upholstery for the S's cloth. The SE R-Line Black is mostly a sporty exterior and interior appearance package on top of the SE, but it also adds a panoramic sunroof and a head-up display. The base price for the S is $32,280.AdvertisementAdvertisement➡️ Skip the lot.
