Honda has recalled 1,049,883 vehicles after discovering a defect in the flat tire repair kit nozzle that could lead to pressure build-up in the sealant bottle. The Japanese automaker received eight reports of injuries relating to the issue, in addition to 53 warranty claims.According to a recall report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 340 units of the 2025-2026 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell EV, 744,530 units of the 2023-2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid, and 305,013 units of the 2023-2026 Honda Accord Hybrid have been affected by the issue and are part of the recall population. The report states that if the nozzle is connected improperly to the tire valve, it may lead to a pressure build-up inside the sealant bottle. In such an event, if the relief valve fails to release pressure, it could cause the bottle cap to detach, increasing the risk of injury.AdvertisementAdvertisementHonda investigated the problem and discovered the root cause, which was the tire repair kit (TRK) design. During its development, the amount of pressure that could accumulate if the nozzle was incorrectly connected was not taken into account, leading to the addition of an "unnecessary fluid leak prevention valve."Image Courtesy: HondaCertain fluid leak prevention valves were improperly adjusted during the supplier's manufacturing process, which prevented the pressure from being released. Honda first received a report of the issue on April 3, 2023. The investigation went on for years until May 28, 2026, when the company acknowledged the defect and decided to conduct a safety recall. The report stated:"As of May 28, 2026, Honda has had 53 warranty claims and 8 reports of an injury and no report of a death related to this issue in the US from September 15, 2022, through May 21, 2026."Affected Owners Will be Contacted by HondaAccording to the recall report, affected Honda owners will be contacted by mail and will be advised to take their vehicle to a Honda dealer.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe dealer will replace the tire repair kit nozzle or the sealant bottle. The remedy component does not have a one-way valve.Interim owners will be notified on July 27, 2026. Notably, the recall condition was corrected by Honda in its production process on May 20, 2026.
