Report: Honda's Truck Will Be Put on Ice Until 2028Michael Simari - Car and Driver (Michael Simari - Car and Driver)Honda will pause production of the Ridgeline for about 18 months, according to a report by Automotive News. The pause is reportedly necessary because the unibody truck's aging powertrain fails to meet upcoming emissions regulations. The production pause will begin in the fourth quarter of this year, but a heavily refreshed Ridgeline is expected to return in late 2028.Honda's production plans are shifting once again. After pushing back new generations of the Accord, HR-V, and Odyssey—as well as the Acura MDX and Integra—Honda is now planning to pause production of the Ridgeline, according to a report by Automotive News.AN reports that the pause is necessary because Honda's pickup truck fails to meet upcoming emissions regulations. The stoppage won't go into effect until the fourth quarter, but once the stoppage begins, it's expected to last for around 18 months.Michael Simari - Car and Driver (Michael Simari - Car and Driver)A spokesperson for Honda declined Car and Driver's request to comment on its future plans for the Ridgeline or how many months of inventory the company has stocked. Instead, they simply said, "[the] Ridgeline remains an important model in our lineup and one of our top conquest models with unique appeal within the industry pickup segment. The Ridgeline will continue to play an important role in our product lineup now and in the future."AdvertisementAdvertisementIt's not exactly clear why the Ridgeline fails to meet regulations, but the mid-size pickup uses an aging version of Honda's SOHC V-6, rather than the updated DOHC engine found in the Pilot and the Passport. The pause should provide Honda time to prepare for the launch of a heavily refreshed Ridgeline, which is expected to arrive in the latter half of 2028. The revised pickup should get some styling updates and Honda's newer V-6, though it won't be an entirely new generation. Speaking of the next-generation Ridgeline, that truck should arrive in the early 2030s, riding on a new hybrid architecture, according to the AN report.[/poll]➡️ Skip the lot.
