Ford's next special edition Bronco comes courtesy of a collaboration with Seattle-based garment maker Filson. You may have already heard of Filson, especially if you were part of the Alaska Gold Rush of 1899. Filson made waxed jackets to keep the rain off you as you trudged North in search of riches. They still make waxed jackets, and they still keep the rain off you. But starting next year the Filson name will be on a new Field Green or Iron Sands Copper Metallic Bronco. The edition also gets a new grille, fender flares, spare tire cover, monobloc wheels with 35-inch tires, and, most importantly, a Raptor V6 engine. Inside are loads of new sound insulation to take advantage of the new aero touches outside to make the ride more quiet. The Filson also gets a more comfortable suspension tune. Does the Filson mean the Bronco is getting civilized? “No, definitely not,” said Chief Engineer Ed Kren.So it’s still the rugged, rough-and-ready Bronco of yore, got it? It’s just far more comfortable, ready to compete with the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser, which are more civilized.“We’re in their zip code now,” said Kren.Pricing likely to be in the mid-70s. Orders are being taken now for delivery next year.
