After debuting its Ford-inspired Escort Mk1 RS revival in 2024, Boreham Motorworks has unveiled its production-spec prototype based on the rally legend. The car is effectively entirely new, which means that for the first time since the Escort left production more than 50 years ago, a new one will be made.Boreham MotorworksView the 2 images of this gallery on the original articleUnlike other restomods (think: Singer), the Escort is blessed, or really licensed officially, by Ford. The company calls it a "continumod," not a restomod. Hair-splitting aside, the highlight here is instead a hair-raising 10,000-rpm redline found in the Escort's heavily modified four-cylinder engine.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe engine is just one of two four-cylinder options. A standard 1.8-liter twin-cam option is available, but the one you want is Boreham's "Ten-K," aptly named for its redline. Displacement rises to 2.1 liters, making a healthy 330 horsepower. That figure might be run-of-the-mill in new cars, but the car's lightweight chassis and extensive carbon fiber parts mean curb weight is under 2,000 pounds. That's like having a Miata lose a few hundred pounds and gain another hundred horsepower.Boreham MotorworksView the 3 images of this gallery on the original articleThe engine is complemented by a totally bespoke chassis resting beneath the retro body, which features a carbon hood and trunk. The brakes are more modern too, and the electrical system is no longer from the 1970s. That includes LED lighting, switchgear, and instruments. As with so many cars in this vein, the interior is also completely overhauled. Modern amenities like real climate control and updated gauges live next to retro ones, like crank windows. Each car features a pair of bespoke helmets, painted to match the stunning green bodywork.AdvertisementAdvertisementWill Ford, General Manager, Ford Racing, said:"From the first time we met with Boreham Motorworks and the DRVN team, it was clear that they had an exciting vision for how to bring some of our most iconic historical nameplates to life for the modern era. It will be exciting to see this relationship flourish and to see how Boreham Motorworks brings the vision to life at a time when there is so much passion from enthusiasts for great experiences."As is usually the case, pricing is stratospheric. Only 150 will be made, each with a 20,000-mile warranty, with pricing starting at $400,000.This story was originally published by Men's Journal on Jun 12, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
