Image: Mike SchleeImage: Mike SchleeThere's a bright new Subaru WRX roaming the streets in the great white north. Called the 2026 Subaru WRX 雷 Kaminari Edition, the name roughly translates to lightning which is fitting considering the singular exterior color choice.Based on the current WRX tS, this special edition sedan is a cosmetic upgrade that is available only in Canada. Just 150 units will be built at a price of $52,090 (CAD) including destination charges. That's an increase of $1,600 over the regular 2026 Subaru SRX tS in Canada.Image: Mike SchleeImage: Mike SchleeAdvertisementAdvertisementWe recently spent a week in one of these limited edition models to see what one gets for that money. Below, we've broken down the car's main differences and similarities across three broad topics.Exterior Changes: Do You Like Yellow? As mentioned, the most obvious change to the 2026 Subaru WRX 雷 Kaminari Edition is the very, very yellow exterior paint. Fittingly called Sunrise Yellow, the car could indeed light up a room, or maybe even a small city.Another exterior change is the all-black Sport Design front grille that features a more open layout compared to the WRX's usual front grille. The black theme continues with a high-profile rear spoiler and matte black 10-spoke split wheels. The black and yellow bumble bee look works well on this car, giving it a bit more visual presence.Interior Changes: No Seriously, What About Some Yellow?AdvertisementAdvertisementInside yellow stitches dominate, found on the dash, doors, Recaro seats, and in other places. The rest of the interior is the usual tS design, with a mix of leather, micro-fibre, soft touch rubber, a large centre screen, and a fully digital driver information centre. The seats are a great combination of support and comfort, ready for spirited driving or a jaunt across the freeway. The rear seat can accommodate adults and thanks to the adaptive dampers, when not in the most hardcore sport mode, the ride quality is more than acceptable for a bright-yellow sport sedan. The Mechanics: No Changes, No ProblemImage: Mike SchleeImage: Mike SchleeThe 2026 Subaru WRX 雷 Kaminari Edition does not change the mechanics of the WRX tS in anyway, but that isn't a bad thing. As we reported after driving the car a year ago, this is the best non-STI version of the WRX we have ever gotten in North America and the adjustable dampers are worth the price of admission alone.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four-cylinder generates 271 which is punchy but not frightening. Every one of those ponies can be used on a daily basis, manipulating the power through the standard six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive system. Although the dampers in their softest setting do allow for decent ride comfort, in the Sport+ mode they make the WRX a real corner-happy appliance. At the core of Subaru's rally-inspired sport sedan has always been that toss-able, fun-to-drive nature. This bright yellow special edition does not disappoint. You just need to be in Canada to get one.Become an AutoGuide insider.
