The entry-level Ferrari has just stepped out for some fresh air. The Amalfi coupe, named for that same stretch of Italian coastline, is now available in the one you really want for a day of waterfront cliffside driving. A convertible, with a folding fabric roof separating you from the rain, should you find yourself in Seattle, instead of Salerno. Topless, Like Every Ferrari Should Be FerrariThe Amalfi is basically a refreshed Roma, so the Amalfi Spider is a refreshed version of the Roma Spider. The styling is mostly the same, with an updated front end. It even has the same buttresses behind the rear seat, which is still large enough to fit a laptop bag or this year's hottest fashion purse-sized pup, and that's about all. It's not exactly a big trunk, either. The Ferrari can hold nine cubic feet with the top up or just six with it down. About the same as a Miata. Were this a Testarossa or 12 Cilindri Spider, we'd suggest you have your staff bring your luggage in another vehicle. Since this is the "base" Ferrari (aside from a used car), we're not sure owners will have that scratch.FerrariFerrari's five-layer burrito soft-folding roof can open in 13.5 seconds, and it can go up or down at 37 mph. Buyers can pick from four colors of Ferrari's special fabric or two more colors in a "technical fabric." Contrast stitching is also available. The interior is a copy of the coupe's. Loads of buttons on the wheel, a tiny passenger screen, and Ferrari's hilarious new gear selector for the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic are all present. The wind deflector is unique to the Spider, though, and goes up or down with the push of a button (at up to 100 mph). The steering wheel is new, with more actual buttons replacing some previously touch features.Rosso Tramonto is the flagship color for the Spider, a follow-up to the Verde Costiera green of the coupe's launch. The orange-red shade is meant to look like the boundary between the sea and sky at sunset, just like what you'd see along the Amalfi coast. Just ignore that Amalfi proper has a south-facing coastline, not west. Same Sweet-Sounding Twin-Turbo V8 FerrariDespite the cut-off top, the rest of the car is largely the same. Ferrari's F154 twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 makes 631 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque, both slightly higher than the Roma, the car it replaces. Ferrari updated that engine for the Amalfi with lighter cams and a new engine block that both helped shave weight, while new turbochargers are said to help the engine move more air.FerrariSomehow, Ferrari has kept the active rear wing. The movable airfoil has three different configurations, each one offering more downforce at the expense of more drag. The highest downforce setting adds 240 pounds of pressure with just 4% more drag. That's on top of whatever extra drag you get from having the top down.Like the Amalfi coupe, the Spider gets Ferrari's newest brake-by-wire ABS Evo system for better braking and faster-acting anti-lock. It also comes with Ferrari's latest Side Slip Control system, and the new brakes mean everything can work together more harmoniously.Ferrari didn't announce pricing, but with the coupe starting just shy of $300,000, expect this one to be closer to $350,000. That's if you're happy with the base spec, too. If you want options like the hideous orange paint with blue seats on the launch car, that'll probably cost you a lot more. Expect to see the Amalfi Spider along the fanciest coastlines in the world starting later this year.2027 Ferrari Amalfi Spider (4)
