But handing a teenager the keys to a 460-horsepower sports car capable of nearly 190 miles per hour also creates plenty of opportunities for things to go very wrong. One teen in California recently demonstrated why: According to the California Highway Patrol's (CHP) Grass Valley office, an officer clocked the 17-year-old driving a C7-generation Corvette at 123 mph in a 55-mph zone. The teen was cited, but that wasn't the end of his bad night; the officer also called his parents.CHP did not say whether the Corvette belonged to the teenager or his guardians. Either way, explaining to his folks why he was driving it at 123 mph—and apparently at night, no less, based on the images the police posted—was probably an uncomfortable conversation.It's easy to joke about the phone call home, but 68 mph over the posted speed limit —more than twice as fast as legally permitted—isn't something to make light of, even more so if an inexperienced driver was behind the wheel.
