ToplineChrysler is recalling over 265,000 Ram ProMaster vans due to a problem that can cause water to leak into the vehicles' power steering system, potentially corroding the wiring and causing drivers to lose power steering assistance, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Some Ram ProMaster vans could lose power steering, according to a recall report.Key FactsChrysler is recalling 265,512 ProMaster vans with model years between 2022 and 2026, according to a recall report filed by the NHTSA in September. The vans were manufactured with faulty electric power steering systems that are "susceptible to water intrusion," according to the report, which could corrode wiring and cause "intermittent or permanent loss" to their power steering. The vehicles will give no warning or indication before losing power steering, according to the report, and loss of the feature can increase the risk of crashes.Chrysler said it was aware of one accident but no injuries related to the issue.Chrysler plans to remedy the issue by offering free inspections and replacements at dealerships, according to a recall acknowledgement dated Oct. 6, and will send owners notices about the possible faulty systems by Nov. 17.Which Vehicles Are Impacted? The recall impacts several different van models, including 44,391 Ram 1500 ProMasters, 147,204 Ram 2500 ProMasters and 72,043 Ram 3500 ProMasters, all with model years between 2022 through 2026. It also impacts an electric vehicle version of the van—a total of 1,874 Ram 3500 EV ProMasters with model years between 2024 and 2026. Owners can now search their vehicles' VIN through the NHTSA's database to see if their vehicle is part of the population.Key BackgroundThe ProMaster recall comes months after Chrysler's parent company Stellantis issued a massive recall for over 1 million vehicles over concerns with their power steering system that could cause a hydraulic pump to overheat and catch on fire, even when parked and the ignition turned off. The June recall covered Jeep Wranglers and Jeep Gladiators made between 2021 and 2025. This recall also came with a "park outside" warning for owners due to the fire risk.
