In January alone, 606,000 charging facilities were added, extending last year’s elevated growth trajectory. On February 27, the National Energy Administration released nationwide data on electric vehicle charging facilities for January 2026. According to the National Charging Infrastructure Monitoring and Service Platform, as of end-January 2026, China’s total number of EV charging facilities (connectors) reached 20.698 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 49.6%. China’s NEA released the data on EV charging infrastructure. In January alone, 606,000 charging facilities were added, extending last year’s elevated growth trajectory. Structurally, incremental growth was primarily driven by private installations. Of the January additions, 84,000 were public charging piles, while 522,000 were private chargers, accounting for 86% of the total monthly increase. As of end-January, public charging facilities totaled 4.801 million units, up 31.2% YoY. Private charging facilities reached 15.897 million units, accounting for more than 76% of the total, with a YoY increase of 56.1%. Installed capacity is also improving. The total rated power of public charging piles reached 226 million kilowatts, with an average power rating of approximately 47.01 kilowatts per unit. Reported contracted power capacity for private charging facilities stood at approximately 138 million kilovolt-amperes. China has now established the world’s largest EV charging network, supporting the charging demand of more than 40 million new energy vehicles. Highway EV charging piles in China During the recent Spring Festival holiday from February 15 to 23, statistics from 53,300 highway charging piles included in the national monitoring platform showed that highway EV charging sessions totaled 6.021 million nationwide. Total charging volume during the holiday reached 149.7675 million kilowatt-hours, with an average daily charging volume of 16.6408 million kilowatt-hours, up 52.01% YoY compared with the previous Spring Festival, marking a record high. Expansion of charging infrastructure continues to reinforce growth in the new energy vehicle market. Sales data of China’s NEVs from 2024 to Jan 2026 Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers show that in January 2026, NEV production and sales reached 1.041 million units and 945,000 units, respectively, representing YoY growths of 2.5% and 0.1%. Against a backdrop of moderating market growth, continued enhancement of charging infrastructure is emerging as a foundational condition for sustaining long-term expansion of the NEV sector.
