BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) has surpassed 600,000 cumulative vehicle sales since its mid-2023 launch. However, General Manager Xiong Tianbo acknowledged that October deliveries missed internal targets because of production ramp-up difficulties involving new product lines.
The brand is preparing to launch the Ti 9 plug-in hybrid SUV after November 15, while the Shark PHEV pickup, which debuted domestically at the Alashan Hero Festival in October, is scheduled for customer deliveries in December.
Ti 7 accounts for half of Fang Cheng Bao’s sales
The Ti 7 mid-size SUV surpassed 300,000 cumulative sales in late October, accounting for about half of the brand’s total. It has also ranked first in China’s boxy SUV sales category for 12 consecutive months.
Fang Cheng Bao entered the electric passenger-car market in September with the Formula S sedan and Formula S GT shooting brake. Priced between 189,900 yuan (26,750 USD) and 239,900 yuan (33,800 USD), the two models have a previously reported combined monthly sales target of 10,000 to 15,000 units.
The brand plans to increase production in November to reduce waiting times. It will also establish Formula Club, an offline initiative for Formula S owners to provide vehicle feedback.
Ti 9 targets larger family households
Xiong said the brand’s expanding lineup is intended to serve households ranging from couples to multi-child and three-generation families. The Ti 9 addresses the larger end of that market with a six-seat, 2+2+2 cabin and BYD’s unibody DMS (Distributed Monocoque System) architecture, unlike the body-on-frame Bao 5 and Bao 8.
The full-size SUV measures 5,270 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,850 mm tall, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase. Its expected price range is 400,000 to 500,000 yuan (56,350 to 70,450 USD), putting it in competition with the Li Auto L9 and Aito M9.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine rated at 115 kW with two 200 kW electric motors, for a combined motor output of 400 kW (536 hp).
A 66.48 kWh FinDreams Blade battery provides a claimed 310 km of electric range under WLTC, equivalent to approximately 360 km on a WLTP basis. It supports flash charging from 10% to 97% in a claimed nine minutes. Equipment also includes DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension with road-preview capability and active rear-wheel steering.
Display vehicles began arriving at Fang Cheng Bao showrooms across China this week, with initial test drives scheduled for the weekend. Final pricing and launch details are expected after November 15. We previously covered the Ti 9’s showroom rollout and customer registration.
