Beaver tails, poutine, and the coolest anniversary-spec 2027 BMW M4. They're all Canadian exclusives as BMW Canada is marking 40 years since the very first BMW M3 hit the market. The M Legacy Edition coupes will get a choice of special historic paint jobs, a special graphics package, and some CSL bits on a standard M4. Only In Canada? Pity BMW Yes, the BMW M3 coupe, which had its name and history stolen away more than 10 years ago, is turning 40. Of course, that means special editions, just like it did four years ago when BMW launched a run of "50 Jahre" cars to celebrate 50 years since it first canned its own sauerkraut the founding of M.BMW The look starts with a set of BMW's lovely lace 826M wheels. The M Legacy Edition cars get this wheel design finished in gold bronze, which was previously limited to the CS models. They also come with a new set of BMW M graphics applied over the hood and the trunklid. This is the first time that BMW has offered factory-applied graphics in the Canadian market, and it's not something the company does often.Three classic paint colors from the M catalog are offered on these cars. They are Laguna Seca Blue, which was the launch color for the 2001 E46 M3, Velvet Blue Metallic, and Imola Red II. None of the three are currently available on the M4 outside this edition, even through the Manufaktur program. They also happen to be very close matches to the BMW M three-slash logo. Each 2027 M4 Coupe M Legacy Edition will get a load of normally optional equipment. That means M carbon seats, full Merino leather, Nappa leather dash, carbon interior trim, and the M Driver's package that includes a higher top speed and a one-day course at a BMW Performance center. You'll also get the M Alcantara steering wheel that's normally reserved for the CS and CSL. Just A Reminder That Canada Got The Euro M3 The US Didn't BMW BMW Canada will sell this package on the M4 and the M4 Competition. The former gets 473 horsepower from its twin-turbo 3.0-liter I6, while the latter has 523 horses and other suspension and chassis changes to make it sharper than standard.Even though its roads are snow-covered for half of the year across much of the country, M is popular in Canada. In 2025, it was the number two market for M cars as a share of total BMW sales, and it has been near the top for a long time.Go back a few generations, and Canada got the E36-chassis M3 long before the US did. 45 Euro-spec cars were officially imported and sold, and that included the full-fat 3.0-liter, 286 hp S50 I6 instead of the 240-horse North American spec engine that came along later as BMW looked to cut costs so it could sell the M3 in the US.The M Legacy cars will be limited to just 40 units, and they'll hit dealers in the third quarter of 2026. Pricing starts from $115,500 for the standard coupe and $124,500 (CAD) for the Competition. That's really just a slight premium over a standard M4, and cheaper than a US-spec M4. Though importing one from up north might not be that simple.
