BMW has applied its "Life Cycle Impulse" facelift formula to the polarizing 7 Series, and the resulting 2027 model has some pretty cool upgrades over its immediate predecessor. In fact, the company says that the heavily updated 7er is the recipient of the most comprehensive LCI to ever come out of Bavaria, and after getting up close with the flagship sedan in Germany, we're inclined to agree. Although the sedan's bold exterior looks only mildly altered, the 2027 7 Series has a totally new interior headlined by a Neue Klasse–style dashboard and steering wheel, as well as lots of mechanical changes beneath the skin. Rhinoplasty And A Butt Lift The overall design of the exterior looks similar to the outgoing 7 Series and i7 family, but there are some notable changes. The large kidney grilles remain, but they've been reshaped to look narrower and taller, with redesigned trim separating them a bit for a more traditional BMW shape. The latest roundel badge sits in a sculpted groove in the middle of the front bumper, borrowing a note from the current M3 and recently revealed i3, and that chamfer continues up the hood. Possibly the largest departure from the previous design is a new headlight layout.BMWFour razor-thin, crystal-textured daytime running lights ride up high near the hood, while the headlights themselves have migrated from blackout panels on either side of the grille to their own hidden niches on the bumper corners. Combined with some toned-down grille textures and a reshaped lower front bumper, the new fascia is much more cohesive than the one it replaces, looking a bit more proportional. Changes around the side are pretty minimal, amounting mainly to new door handles and tweaked rocker trim, but there are a few alterations to the rear.2027 BMW i7 Exterior 16The most obvious switch-up is a new trunklid with a chiseled center section that recalls the hood, as well as much wider taillights that nearly meet in the middle. Twin LED striations in the lamps and a new rear bumper profile give the rear end a slightly more modern appearance, and it helps the front end match the rear with some pleasing visual symmetry. Massive Modernization Inside Despite the evolutionary sheet metal changes, the cabin has undergone a huge transformation inspired by BMW's latest debuts. The 2027 BMW 7 Series and i7 receive the new Panoramic iDrive interior design first seen in the iX3 and i3 electric vehicles, complete with a new, funky steering wheel with two vertical spokes and two massive thumb rests with multifunction controls. Sitting at the base of the windshield is a pillar-to-pillar display that displays vital stats on the space in front of the driver, with reconfigurable widgets on the center and right sections.BMWA 17.9-inch floating center display sits within easy reach of the driver. If that's not enough, every 7 Series will receive BMW's very first auxiliary passenger touchscreen, which measures 14.6 inches and allows your right-seater to help navigate, select audio, or enjoy their own entertainment through built-in video and music streaming plus dedicated Bluetooth audio. Expect the passenger display to proliferate throughout BMW's product lineup in the future, likely hitting the company's future in-house Alpina models.2027 BMW i7 Interior 3The rear passengers get a few extra toys as well, with the optional 31.3-inch, 8K-resolution BMW Theater rear-seat entertainment system receiving an integrated camera that can receive or transmit Zoom video calls while on the go, as well as an HDMI connection that can plug into a computer for an expanded desktop display. A 36-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system with Dolby Atmos is an optional upgrade to the rear seat screen, but just go ahead and tick the box anyway, because it sounds great.Other luxury updates include more extensive ambient lighting, including a welcoming "carpet" animation that extends rearward from the doors as you approach the vehicle. Once aboard, the Panoramic Skylounge glass roof glows softly with its own LED graphics, accompanied by glowing speaker grilles, a dynamic full-width light strip on the dashboard, and unique lighting sconces mounted to the backs of the front seats facing the rear. A very impressive Veganza leather alternative is standard, with Merino leather available as an option.BMW A Neue Klasse–Inspired EV Powertrain The 2027 BMW 7 Series family will continue to offer fully electric and gasoline powertrains. The $106,200 i7 50 xDrive will boast a healthy 449 horsepower and 489 pound-feet thanks to a motor on each axle – output that's up 10 lb-ft over the outgoing rear-drive eDrive50 model. The more powerful $124,700 60 xDrive ups the output to 536 hp and 549 lb-ft, identical to its xDrive60 predecessor. The externally excited synchronous electric motors on both trims replace permanent-magnet asynchronous designs on the outgoing i7, reducing the need for rare-earth metals in the car's construction and improving electrical efficiency. The 2027 i7's new Gen6 battery architecture replaces prismatic with cylindrical cells for a 20 percent improvement in energy density, increasing in capacity to 112.5 kilowatt-hours compared to the old unit's 105.7 kWh. Thanks to improved energy efficiency, you can expect to go about 350 miles per charge in the 60 xDrive model – its 2026 equivalent could only do around 307 miles per the EPA. A standard NACS port should make it easier to take advantage of the new i7's 250-kilowatt DC fast charge rate, a boost from the old one's 195 kW. 2027 BMW i7 Exterior Details 2 A Legendary BMW Powerplant Lives On The 2027 BMW 740 and 740 xDrive return to the lineup for 2027, complete with the company's turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. The mostly carryover engine has a new turbocharger and some minor tweaks to pump output up 19 to a total of 394 hp, with 398 lb-ft on tap as before. Despite the middling-sounding power output, the 2027 BMW 7 Series should hit 60 miles per hour in under five seconds. With rear-wheel drive, the 740 has a starting price of $99,800, while the 740 xDrive costs $102,800 to start.Next year, BMW will blend electricity and gasoline together with a reintroduced 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid, which will have a combined 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Expect around 40 miles of all-electric range before the gas engine kicks on, more than enough for most daily commutes. If absolute power is the goal, then potential customers may want to wait until 2028, when BMW introduces its latest V8-powered 7 Series – likely wearing an M760 badge and boasting more than the current V8's 536 hp. That model should hit 60 mph somewhere in the three-second range, but BMW hasn't committed to anything just yet. 2027 BMW i7 Exterior 1The start of production for the i7 50 xDrive, i7 60 xDrive, 740, and 740 xDrive models will happen in July, with vehicles arriving in US dealers shortly thereafter. The plug-in hybrid 750e will show up early next year, while the M-badged V8 model should be a late-2027 arrival. Although the thought of taking a Zoom call on a road trip enrages our proletariat sensibilities, the rest of the 2027 BMW 7 Series family's updates represent a holistic improvement to almost every facet of the car – from efficiency and performance to design and technology. This may be "just" an LCI, but the latest 7er is once again a world-class luxury car.Source: BMW
