A 560-HP BMW M5 For $18K? Someone Just Got OneGuessing HeadlightsAndre NalinFri, September 11, 2026 at 11:00 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleImage Credit: Cars & Bids.Buying a used German performance sedan for economy-car money can be either a brilliant decision or the beginning of a very expensive relationship with your mechanic. One Cars & Bids bidder decided that the potential reward was worth the risk. The car in question is a 2013 BMW M5 from the F10 generation, complete with a twin-turbocharged V8, rear-wheel drive, and enough luxury equipment to remind you that this was a seriously expensive machine when new. It also has a relatively modest 66,200 miles on the odometer. Okay, so it's not a low-mileage car, but it's not frighteningly high either. That said, this particular example isn't perfect, and its history includes one detail that undoubtedly gave some bidders reason to hesitate. That apparently didn't bother its new owner enough to steer clear of it.AdvertisementAdvertisementCars & Bids sold the M5 at no reserve on September 9 after 20 bids. The winning amount was just $18,018, prompting several commenters to describe the car as an absolute steal. That's A Lot Of Performance For $18,018Image Credit: Cars & Bids.Under the hood is BMW's 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with approximately 560 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. Unlike today's all-wheel-drive M5, the F10 sends everything exclusively to the rear wheels. This example has a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission rather than the six-speed manual. Its only notable modifications reported by the seller are black-painted kidney and side grilles, so the important mechanical bits appear to remain largely stock. For roughly $18,000, then, the winning bidder received a 560-hp rear-wheel-drive super sedan. There's a reason commenters quickly started calling the result a bargain. It's Loaded With Options, TooImage Credit: Cars & Bids. The Frozen Brilliant White Metallic exterior is paired with a black cabin featuring Full Merino leather. Factory equipment includes the Executive Package, adaptive suspension, and desirable 20-inch Style 343M wheels.AdvertisementAdvertisementInside, there are M Multifunction front seats, Individual Piano Black trim, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system. A power sunroof is also among the equipment listed on the build sheet. The seller says the current owner purchased the M5 in 2014, although the Carfax lists several owners. According to the seller, owners three through five reflect shared ownership between siblings. There's A CatchAn $18,018 F10 M5 naturally comes with some baggage. The listing notes that BMW reacquired this particular car in November 2013 under a Lemon Law/buyback, although it now carries a clean Pennsylvania title. There are cosmetic imperfections as well, including exterior chips and scratches, rear-bumper damage, a dent on the passenger-side rear quarter panel, and curb rash on one wheel. Inside, the seats and touch points show wear, while the leather covering on the dashboard has started warping.AdvertisementAdvertisementSome useful maintenance has been performed in recent years. Spark plugs and ignition coils were replaced in 2022, while an April 2024 service included a new lower radiator hose and temperature sensor along with fresh coolant.A Bargain With An AsteriskImage Credit: Cars & Bids. Those issues help explain why the bidding didn't climb higher. Cars & Bids commenters also pointed to uncertainty surrounding the car's ownership and title history as possible factors behind the low result.Still, $18,018 buys an enormous amount of car here. The F10 M5 combines 560 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, luxury equipment, and relatively restrained styling in a package that's still seriously quick by modern standards.Of course, buying a depreciated high-performance BMW is only the first financial hurdle; keeping one healthy can be another matter entirely. As the saying goes, no car is more expensive than a cheap luxury car. For the winning bidder, however, the entry price was certainly tempting enough to take that chance.AdvertisementAdvertisementIf you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
