There’s a specific kind of joy that comes with seeing someone drive the exact same car as you. Not just the same brand, but the same model, the one you researched endlessly, debated buying, and now baby every time you park it. For one Toyota GR Corolla owner, instead of a wave or a head nod, he got a surprise gift from a stranger who happened to be driving the same car. What Happened Between the Two Corolla Drivers? TikTok creator Joshua (@joshua.boshua) shared the encounter in a short video that’s since pulled in more than 7,800 views. Sitting in his car, he explains how the moment unfolded. "I just finished coffee and I’m walking out," he says at the start of the clip. "I don’t know if y’all know what I drive, but let me show you really quick." He gets out of his car and flips the camera to reveal his Toyota GR Corolla, which he says he’s owned for about eight months. "I really enjoy it," he adds. "It’s a lot of fun." As he was leaving, he said another GR Corolla pulled up nearby. This one is blue, while Joshua’s is black. "And he rolls up," Joshua says, "and he’s like, ‘I have a gift for you.’" Joshua says he was surprised. "A gift for me? I don’t even know this guy." The driver then got out and handed him something unexpected: a small McDonald’s bag containing a miniature GR Corolla toy, complete with stickers. "He just hands me this," Joshua says, holding the tiny car up to the camera. "It’s a McDonald’s collab that was in Japan—at least that’s what he’s telling me." Inside the bag is a detailed mini GR Corolla in gold, along with branded stickers. Joshua laughs as he looks at it. "That is like so sick to me," he says. "He really pulled up on me and said ‘here,’" Joshua adds in the caption. Is This Collab Actually Real? The collaboration is real. Last April, McDonald’s Japan brought back its popular Tomica Happy Meal promotion, which includes miniature die-cast vehicles from the Tomica series. The promotion featured a rotating lineup of cars, trucks, and service vehicles, plus one secret model. Among the known vehicles in the lineup were a Nissan GT-R Patrol Car, a Toyota Himedic Ambulance, a Toyota GR Supra Safety Car, and several construction and emergency vehicles. The secret toy, which wasn’t openly advertised, appears to be a gold Toyota GR Corolla—exactly the one Joshua was handed. The Toyota GR Corolla Community Is Very Much Alive The GR Corolla isn’t a commuter car you stumble into by accident. People who buy it usually do so on purpose. That shared intent has turned into a genuine online community. GR Corolla owners regularly gather in Facebook groups, Reddit threads, and local meetups to swap maintenance tips, share driving clips, and compare mods. Some groups focus on track performance. Others just post photos and stories from their drives. There’s also a strong culture of looking out for each other. Owners often talk about parking near one another, leaving notes, or striking up conversations at gas stations. It’s a car that invites interaction, but mostly from people who already know what they’re looking at. People Thought the Moment Was Adorable In the comments, viewers leaned fully into how wholesome the exchange felt. "This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen," one person wrote. "GR is for sure a car you can get away with this—it’s a car ONLY for people who know ball." "Stop, that’s so cute," another added. Others chimed in with similar experiences. "I can confirm I was at an event in LA where they either gave those out or the GR86," one commenter said. "Car guys are the best and understand fellow car guys," another wrote. "A bromance in the making," chimed another charmed commenter. Motor1 has reached out to Toyota via email and Joshua via TikTok messages for comment. We’ll update this if either responds.
