Believ takes over 110+ EV chargers in Brighton & Hove

According to Believ, the company plans to retain some existing equipment while replacing rapid chargers to improve reliability and bring the network in line with current charging regulations. The takeover covers ‘standard plus’ AC chargers rated at 7-22 kW and rapid charging units with outputs of 50 kW or more. Believ will retain the existing standard-plus equipment, including its installed cabling and infrastructure, while the rapid charging locations are being upgraded. The replacement equipment is expected to be in place by the end of November 2026.

The operator said the transition will improve the reliability of the network while making more efficient use of public space. Locations include Elm Grove, London Road Car Park, and King Alfred Car Park. Believ added that public charging is particularly important in Brighton & Hove as 54 per cent of residents do not have access to off-street parking.

Guy Bartlett, CEO at Believ, said: “With more than half of all households without access to off-street parking, public charging is vital to the region’s transition to EVs and delivering clean air for all. By retaining equipment where possible, upgrading rapid charging locations and working closely with the local authority, we’re taking a practical approach to delivering a reliable network for Brighton.”

The takeover of Blink’s chargers is separate to a larger scheme under which Believ is working with the council to install a further 210 rapid and ultra-rapid charging points across the city. Deployment is already underway, with completion scheduled for the end of 2028. The council selected Believ for the project in June 2025, with the original plans containing provision for up to 208 units – a number that has now been increased.

Overall, the two developments will significantly increase Believ’s presence in the city by combining the takeover of existing infrastructure with a substantial rollout of new high-powered chargers.
