The new Audi A2 e-tron will be unveiled in fall 2026, which is sometime between September and November. This was revealed the German carmaker along with footage of the all-electric, entry-level model in prototype form undergoing various tests ahead of its debut. Back in March at Audi’s annual media conference, the company announced that it would bring back the A2, which was an MPV-styled compact car launched in 1999. The original A2’s avantgarde design was the work of Luc Donckerwolke, who also worked on the Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo, as well as the Bentley Flying Spur, before departing to join the Hyundai Motor Group. Original Audi A2 Offered with petrol and diesel engines, the first A2 was unique for its time as it had a body that was made entirely out of aluminium, which meant it weighed significantly less than other cars in its size class. However, the cost of working with aluminium made it rather expensive and when paired with its out-there styling, it faced disappointing sales and was eventually discontinued in 2005. Nonetheless, Audi has seen it fit to bring back the A2 nameplate in e-tron guise, and the prototype looks to be a nod to the original. Based on the provided footage, the A2 e-tron appears to have a similar profile to its long-gone predecessor, albeit with a lower roofline. The general shape also looks to be less bulbous and the lighting units have a much sleeker shape to them, particularly the slim, full-width taillights. Meanwhile, the front features a large grille and a relatively tall bonnet, with Audi promising “outstanding aerodynamics.” Reports suggest the A2 e-tron will be built on the MEB platform that is also used by the Q4 e-tron, Q5 e-tron and many of the Volkswagen Group’s ID. and Skoda electric vehicles (EVs). The company confirmed production of the A2 e-tron will take place at its headquarters in Ingolstadt. Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
