Aston's Newest Car Is ... a Digital War Machine?Aston MartinDefense contracts for automakers are on the rise these days, with everyone from General Motors to Ford to Volkswagen either getting on the train or looking to climb on board. But Aston Martin is taking a unique approach to building its own military-ready vehicle: it's making one that only exists in the virtual world. The British automaker is partnering with Infinity Ward and Activision to reveal the Dreadnought, a digital-only military-specification vehicle, in the soon-to-be released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Aston Martin's designers were given free rein to create a tactical all-wheel-drive truck with supercar performance, and the results are very on-brand. V-12 power pairs with advanced armor technology and adaptive combat zone intelligence systems to create the ultimate fictional battle-ready rig.Aston MartinHilariously, Aston Martin's design team couldn't help itself from adding some luxury amenities. This means the Dreadnought features herringbone weave carbon fiber paneling, an Oxford Tan leather dashboard, and a metallic gold shift lever. (Perhaps these posh pieces aren't so out of place when you consider the Dreadnought name is based on a cutting-edge-for-its-time early 20th-century British warship by the name of HMS Dreadnought, which went on to inspire an entire class of battleships.) Other critical upgrades to the virtual vehicle include reserve fuel tanks and bespoke weapons storage.AdvertisementAdvertisement"To me, Dreadnought is unmistakably an Aston Martin — amplified without restraint. The quality of the details we have been able to include, right down to the iconic Chiltern Green paint color so synonymous with this marque, underscores our dedication to delivering a truly authentic Aston Martin experience," said Aston Martin chief creative officer Marek Reichman. "Features as diverse as the carbon-fiber chassis right through to exquisite elements such as the door hinges in anodised Satin Gold reflect our real-world determination to be the most desirable ultra-luxury brand in the automotive sector, and beyond."Aston MartinThe Dreadnought made its global debut at Fanatics Fest in New York City on July 16 at the Call of Duty booth, where a full-size model of the virtual vehicle was on display. Even so, players will have to wait until the official launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on October 23 to get behind the wheel of the V-12 war machine, where they will be able to find the Dreadnought in key points of interest throughout the game. And Aston is hoping that a younger customer base will follow."Our brand diversification strategy is built on exploring new dimensions of luxury, and expanding Aston Martin's footprint into the gaming world allows us to engage with a new generation on their own terms," said Stefano Saporetti, Aston Martin's director of brand diversification. "The Dreadnought isn't just a digital vehicle; it's a strategic gateway for a younger, global audience to experience our ultra-luxury DNA. By pushing the boundaries of virtual engineering, we are ensuring that the spirit of Aston Martin resonates powerfully with the luxury consumers of tomorrow."You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
