At least, not on its own. The Gaydon-based luxury manufacturer's name wasn't a motorcycle moniker until 2019, when it collaborated with Brough Superior on the remarkable track-only AMB 001 motorcycle. Seven years later, Aston Martin is returning to the motorcycle scene with the equally outrageous AMB 002 Roadster.Aston Martin and Brough Superior may be rejoining forces here, but the AMB 002 is an all-new machine. Brough Superior has fitted a 1083-cc water-cooled V-Twin producing 130 horsepower and 81 lb-ft of torque under its bespoke titanium frame; and because of its street-legal focus, the AMB 002 has a strong low- and mid-range torque curve, with a smoother top-end power delivery than the 001. The engine and frame are designed, machined, and assembled at Brough Superior's facility in Toulouse, France.Aston MartinThe AMB 002 Roadster doesn't read as an Aston Martin visually, nor does its engine type resemble anything under the hood of a Vanquish or Vantage, but the dynamic engineering of the motorcycle is closer to that of a car than you might think. Instead of a typical twin-spar or trellis frame, the AMB 002 uses a structural spine frame milled from a billet of titanium. This structure means the AMB 002 has a 50:50 weight distribution and a lower center of gravity than most motorcycles, with thanks also going to its carbon fiber fuel tank.AdvertisementAdvertisementInstead of using telescopic forks, Brough Superior opted for distinctive double-wishbone 'Fior fork' front suspension. This type of suspension setup separates steering and suspension functions, adding more stability in corners and reducing dive under hard braking. (The Fior fork design is present on all of Brough Superior's bikes, as well as the lovable Honda Gold Wing.)Aston MartinThe AMB 002 Roadster's appearance is largely the work of the Aston Martin design studio, notably including chief creative officer Marek Reichmann. Carbon fiber is present throughout the bike, with special attention paid to the side fairings, which rise to meet the rider when tucked out of the slipstream. Crescent-shaped gills were inserted into the side of the bike to help with engine cooling and streamline aerodynamics.Aston Martin's iconic side-strake is also present on the AMB 002, placed strategically on the side fairing and extending forwards to the headlight. The bike's twin-oval exhaust pipes feature a ribbed design also found on the exhaust finisher design of the Vanquish, DB12 S, and DBX S.
