Factory equipped to ripaprilia tuareg rally review videoAs the adventure segment continues in popularity, the class has seen manufacturers build increasingly specialized machines. Some lean heavily toward touring tarmac, while others chase pure off-road performance. Aprilia's Tuareg struck a sweet spot in the middle, and Aprilia isn't reinventing that formula. Instead, it's refining the base bike and has introduced a Rally version equipped with upgrades serious off-road riders would install anyway.Aprilia Tuareg Rally Review | Why wouldn't you?The standard Tuareg received subtle front-end styling tweaks, larger throttle bodies, and Euro 5+ compliance for its 659cc parallel-Twin. More noticeable is the revised throttle mapping. Aprilia reworked its engine mapping for a punchier feel through the first three gears - a change that is clearly felt on the throttle.Read More:Motorcycle.com's 2023 South Dakota Adventure TourAprilia Tuareg: 5 Things You Need to Know2022 Motorcycle of the YearSouthern California New Year's Adventure RideAdvertisementAdvertisementElectronic adjustment continues to be one of the Tuareg's standout features. Four ride modes include two customizable presets, allowing you to tailor engine maps, traction control, and engine braking. Whether you rely on electronic safety nets or prefer backing them off, the Tuareg lets you tailor the experience - a feature made note of on our trip from Sturgis, SD to Los Angeles, CA.aprilia tuareg rally review videoThe Rally model brings a compelling argument to the dealership floor for riders looking to push the limits of themselves and their machines. Rather than going overboard with blingy farkles, Aprilia focused on durability and control. The Rally gains wrap-around handguards with aluminum braces mounted to a handlebar on taller risers, a beefy skid plate, narrower, stronger tubeless wheels, a titanium SC-Project silencer, high fender and linear fork springs replacing the standard bike's progressive setup. That suspension change is the most meaningful upgrade when it comes to performance. Linear springs provide a consistent feel throughout the stroke, making adjustments predictable for riders who use their suspension's adjustment. At 448 pounds (measured, wet), the Rally isn't a dirt bike, but it hides its mass impressively well. Standing on the pegs feels natural thanks to the taller handlebar risers. While those risers feel a bit high when seated, it's a fair trade-off once the going gets filthy.aprilia tuareg rally review videoNot surprisingly, off-road is where the Rally truly shines. The suspension update makes for a much more compliant ride off-road whether you're picking through rocks or hammering through the desert. Updates around the flywheel and stator aim to reduce stalling; whether the impact is dramatic is debatable, but crawling through rocky washes and charging open desert felt effortless. For what it's worth, the clutch is fairly light, so it's not terribly fatiguing if you find yourself needing to feather it more often.AdvertisementAdvertisementLike the standard Tuareg, the Rally manages to feel approachable without feeling watered down. There isn't much I'd change out of the crate. I'd remove the passenger footpegs because they constantly catch on the top of my boots, throw on some more aggressive tires, slap some Doubletake Mirrors on, and call it a day. The main reason for this is because the Rally comes with all of the major proactive bits from the factory that I would suggest installing on day one.aprilia tuareg rally review videoBest of all, the Rally carries only about a $1,500 premium over the standard model. Considering the upgraded suspension, stronger wheels, Ti exhaust, and added armor, it's less money than most off-road riders would spend in the aftermarket for these items anyway.Ultimately, the 2025 Aprilia Tuareg Rally works because it doesn't try to be a different motorcycle. It simply takes an already excellent platform and factory-equips it for serious off-road duty. If your idea of adventure involves the rough stuff, the Rally arrives ready to work.2026 Aprilia Tuareg Rally SpecificationsMSRP$13,799Engine TypeLiquid-cooled parallel-Twin, with a 270-degree crankDisplacement659ccBore and Stroke81mm x 63.9mmFuel SystemElectronic Fuel InjectionCompression Ratio13.5:1Valve TrainDOHC, 4 valves-per cylinderHorsepower80.0 hp at 9,250 rpm (claimed)Torque51.6 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm (claimed)ClutchMultiplate wet clutch with slipper systemTransmission6-speed (Aprilia Quick Shift bidirection quickshifter available)Final DriveChain, 15/42 ratioElectronicsAPRC Suite that includes ATC (traction control), AEB (engine brake) AEM (engine maps), ACC (cruise control) 4 Riding modes (Urban, Explore, Offroad, Individual)ChassisFrame in steel tubing and built-in subframe screwed aluminum plates connecting the frame to the engineFront SuspensionFully adjustable∅ 43 mm upside-down Kayaba off-road tuned fork with counterspring, 9.4 inches of travelRear SuspensionAluminum swingarm.
