The Corolla Cross served as a base for a beach-inspired build. It gets tailgate seating and custom upholstery inside the cabin. The concept was created by Japanese supplier Hayashi Telempu. The Toyota Corolla Cross plays second fiddle to the RAV4 in most markets, but it remains a global volume seller, and Japanese interior supplier Hayashi Telempu just turned one into a beachside hangout on wheels. Called the Weekend Coast, the concept targets young families and pet owners who treat their crossover like basecamp. If you haven’t heard the name before, Hayashi Telempu is a leading automotive supplier focused on interior trim, floor carpets, and soundproofing. Its products are used by almost every major automaker including Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Subaru, while its global arm supplies American and European OEMs such as Ford, GM, and Stellantis. The highlight is a set of retractable seats and a footrest in the cargo area, offering a similar experience to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s Viewing Suite package. Coastal Vibes Inside and Out The tailgate seating is combined with fresh upholstery inside the cabin, featuring blue and white shades with patterns inspired by the sea breeze. There is also custom ambient lighting on the door cards, a panoramic sunroof, and white upholstery on the dashboard. The concept is not expected to have any mechanical upgrades over the Japanese-spec Corolla Cross and is likely fitted with the stock self-charging hybrid powertrain. Hayashi Telempu will exhibit the Weekend Coast concept at the Field Style Tokyo Show in Japan on May 9-10. The goal is to gather feedback from young families with an outdoor-oriented lifestyle and pet owners. The insights will be used as a reference for future product proposals, meaning similar aftermarket solutions could eventually reach the market.
