It's not often we see an automaker cut prices for a new model year, but that's exactly what Subaru is doing with its Forester. Arguably the most important vehicle in the company's lineup, the popular SUV still starts just under $30,000 before destination, and most trims are between $1,500 and $1,900 less. That includes the Forester Hybrid, which is vastly less expensive for every trim. There are just two exceptions to Subaru's 2026 pricing strategy. The entry-level Forester is the same as it was in 2025; no increase or decrease. And it seems Subaru buyers love the rugged Wilderness trim most of all. It has the distinction of being the only Forester that costs more for 2026, $710 more to be exact. To make up for that, Subaru adds a new Sport Onyx trim to the non-hybrid lineup. And all 2026 models have some minor interior revisions. Let's take a deeper look at pricing. "Emphasis On Affordability And Value" SubaruThe cheapest 2026 Forester starts at $29,995. That's the basic non-hybrid SUV, and it's the same price as last year. The cheapest 2026 Forester Hybrid is still the Premium Hybrid, but it now starts at $34,730. That's a not-insignificant drop of $1,865 compared to last year.At the other end of the spectrum, the most expensive 2026 Forester is the Touring Hybrid at $41,545. It's $1,750 less than last year, and if you don't want a hybrid SUV, the Forester Touring is now $39,995. These prices do not include Subaru's destination fee, which is $1,450 this year. It's up slightly from the $1,420 fee charged in 2025.“The Subaru Forester is a safe, capable, durable, and versatile SUV compared with its competitors. We recognize that consumers are focused on affordability now, more than ever. This creates an opportunity to deliver even greater value for our customers in one of our core Subaru models.”-Jeff Walters, president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc.It's no secret that tariffs are taking a toll on automakers. Subaru doesn't specifically mention this in its pricing announcement, but all Foresters are now assembled at the company's factory in Indiana. Previously, Forester Hybrids were imported from Japan, so that cuts some of the cost right there. Pay A Lot Less, Get A Little More SubaruChanges for 2026 are very minimal. Subaru says the Forester's gear selector is revised, and there's a new cupholder design to "improve ergonomics and comfort for the driver and front passenger." As for the new trim, Sport Onyx Edition is basically the requisite blackout package that every automaker offers up eventually. It rides on 19-inch wheels with a dark finish, and the exterior badges get a similar dark gray applique. Inside there's more darkness with black and gray upholstery. Subaru adds a kicking 576-watt stereo, too. Price-wise, the Sport Onyx Edition slots between Limited and Wilderness trims at $36,495. Sorry, hybrid fans, going dark is something you can only get with the standard Forester.SubaruGoing standard means Subaru's familiar 2.5-liter flat-four under the hood, making 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque for the standard all-wheel-drive system. Choosing the Forester Hybrid adds a parallel system that makes a combined 194 hp, but whichever powertrain you choose, it all goes through a CVT.2026 Subaru Forester trims should be reaching dealerships soon.
