Bentley Torcal to Offer Pure Merino Wool Inside BentleyYou may have seen Volvo's use of wool in its production cars, but the Swedes have nothing on Bentley's new 100-percent Merino wool option for the company's upcoming inaugural EV, the Torcal.A quick primer: traditionally, Merino wool (hailing from the Merino sheep) is used for clothing. It's particularly soft and breathable, making it an ideal raw material for socks, shirts, and much more. However, automakers haven't bought in on the idea of using 100-percent Merino wool as a material in car interiors before Bentley cites a lack of durability as the reasoning behind this—and before you use Volvo as a counterpoint, know that its wool seat option is actually just 30 percent wool, with the remaining 70 percent being recycled polyester. Meanwhile, the wool in the Torcal is pure Merino.BentleyHow? Bentley says it partnered with Fox Brothers, a cloth maker who's been in business since the 1700s, to engineer a wool that's strong enough to meet its durability standards. Unfortunately, the two companies are keeping their secrets, because the exact details about what's new and different about this particular Merino wool aren't being divulged. Bentley is even somewhat coy with its photos, too, only giving us a glimpse of what the wool looks like on the Torcal's door panel and lower dash. (We can't touch it yet, but it sure does look soft.) And while we're seeing it in a rather natural sheep-like white here, Bentley says you'll be able to choose between six different colors.BentleyBentley is also supplying a glimpse at a new Ombre Veneer wood trim option alongside the wool. This trim is made from walnut trees and recycled paper; the texture and layered appearance come from its construction, which involves pressing about 1000 individual layers (each less than a millimeter thick) together.BentleyLastly, there's one more trim being introduced for the Torcal, called Sunburst Aluminum. Bentley calls it a reinterpretation of the engine-turned aluminum dashboards the company used in the past. It's designed to both remind you of the old aesthetic, but bring a contemporary twist to the look.AdvertisementAdvertisementThis interior styling teaser is yet another part of Bentley's slow-drip reveal for its inaugural EV. We got to hear it last month, and the company's American boss gave us some initial details during the New York Auto Show earlier this year. The full reveal is coming toward the end of September, so expect even more info and photos as we lead up to this electric machine's official debut. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
