Image Credit: BentleyIt would appear that no manufacturer can escape the inevitable. Bentley is one of the latest car companies that is set to launch its first-ever EV, joining the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, and others that have recently ventured into the world of electric cars. While the British manufacturer has pushed back its original goal of being EV-only by 2030, it still plans to introduce electrification to its range. And its first model is on track to make its global debut later in 2026, with a reveal coming in London in September. However, one thing that was missing was the name. Bentley had not yet revealed what name it was going to give the new car, but that matter has now been resolved. Say hello to the Bentley Torcal. The official name for a car that Bentley had previously simply referred to as the Urban SUV.AdvertisementAdvertisementOther details are scarce at the moment. Bentley did, however, release a teaser image of the new car, allowing us to get a closer look at some of the design details at the rear of the SUV. It looks set to be a smaller cousin to the full-size Bentayga that the company already produces. What Do We Know About Bentley's First EV?While we don't know a lot about the new Torcal, some details have been shed about the new SUV. While it will still be a big lump, it will be more compact than the Bentayga. The name itself refers to a natural landmark, and it follows on from other Bentleys in that vein, including the Bentayga, the Bacalar and Batur. Bentley took inspiration from El Torcal de Antequera in Andalusia, Spain. The new teaser image from the manufacturer gives us a few clues as to what the car might look like. There is a small roof spoiler, while the tailgate itself is very clean, with thin taillights and the Bentley name and logo right in the middle. Carbon fibre elements appear to be running down the side of the rear window. The EXP 15 concept car, revealed in 2025, may also give us some clues as to what the new Torcal will look like. Whether it features the huge decorative lighting at the front in place of the grille remains to be seen. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the manufacturer retain the concept's long hood, a feature that is a staple of its internal-combustion-powered cars. The rear on the production model looks squatter and taller than on the concept, which had a design closer to a station wagon than an SUV.Bentley Will Not Go All-Electric by 2035Image Credit: BentleyOriginally, Bentley planned to introduce five new all-electric models by 2035, with the Torcal being one of them. But with limited demand from customers, it decided to roll back on that, as many other manufacturers have done so. In fact, at the time of writing, the company has killed off the four other models, with the Torcal the only one to survive the cull.AdvertisementAdvertisementGiven the models were to be developed on a new Porsche EV platform, the SSP-61, that has also been killed off, it didn't come as a surprise. But the British manufacturer isn't ruling out future EVs after its new Urban SUV. It will just have to restart development on a new platform. Hybrids will be the main focus from now on, as the hybrid V8 powertrains in the Continental GT and Flying Spur models have been very well received. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
