Source: AutoGuideSource: AutoGuideWith Volvo's whole Polestar plan collapsing from within, the Swedish company's business plan is dramatically in flux. Having abandoned the sedan and wagon market so as to let the now-defunct electric brand flourish, Volvo now finds itself with a void in its lineup. As it turns out, that might just mean the perfect opportunity to lean back on its greatest strengths.Source: AutoGuideSource: AutoGuideAdvertisementAdvertisementAs unfortunate as it may be, the loss of Polestar in the USA might just be a blessing in disguise for Volvo. The brand's current model offerings-EX60, XC90, EX90, XC60, XC40, and EX30-are largely built on the same framework, acting as derivatives of familiar shapes but with even more commonalities than just a brand logo.Perhaps the company's biggest decision over the last few years was to kill off its trademark wagon models in the USA. Though the V60 might still be on sale, it dates back to 2018 and is hardly a "modern" car in terms of technology and powertrain. That isn't stopping Volvo from looking to the future, though. Automotive News reports that the company is working to build on its SPA3 platform, with alternate body shapes of the EX60 to come in the next few model years.Source: AutoGuideSource: AutoGuideAdvertisementAdvertisementThe EX90 and EX60 are huge vehicles for Volvo, with a lot of the brand's future cash flow hinging on these cars' success (or lack thereof). But for those who don't want a CUV/SUV-shaped vehicle, Volvo is looking to take this platform and create a sedan and wagon -both likely with electric propulsion -but with traditional three-box and wagon silhouettes.Rumor has it these "new" Volvos could arrive for the 2028 model year, perhaps under the ES60 and EV60 monikers. These sound more like foreign-market Lexus model designations than anything to us, but as long as a long-roof Volvo is back on showroom floors, we don't really care what it's called.Become an AutoGuide insider.
