Meridian 911 Looks Poised For a Rally AdventureSignature AutosportsWhile the iconic Porsche 911 is best known for its on-pavement performance, the sports car has also proven itself as a loose-surface warrior over its decades in motorsport. There are any number of shops that will craft a rally-inspired Porker for the right price, but Signature Autosports is aiming to try and tempt you away from the competition. The shop's latest project, known as the Meridian 911, is a classic Porsche restomod aimed at smashing stages with a bit of a grand touring flavor.Signature Autosports is no strangers to the world of highly-customized classics. The shop offers hopped-up Land Rover Defenders and Hellcat-swapped Power Wagons, as well as modern platform-based recreations of the Mercedes 300 SL and Porsche 356 Speedster. That said, this particular project is based around the G-body generation of Porsche 911, which itself was a popular rally racing machine. As one would expect, the sports car has been reworked with a long-travel suspension setup with adjustable ride height, revised suspension geometry for better off-road performance, integrated skid plates, and a set of all-terrain rubber. Not only will that extra suspension travel help tackle bumps on the trail, but it should help soften up the ride around town. Other rally-inspired highlights include the integrated roof rack and light pods on the front.Signature AutosportsThe powertrain consists of a 3.8-liter flat-six, which has been enhanced with Pauter billet heads complete with ported valves, Molly motorsports 102 mm pistons, hot cams, a carbon-fiber intake, a Stuttgart Classica plenum, and a carbon engine shroud. The tweaks help push engine compression up to 11.4:1, which helps result in a claimed 365 hp. To ensure it sounds as good as it can, the car features Clewett individual throttle bodies. The car also packs a single mass lightweight flywheel and an upgraded clutch.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe AI-generated images seen here might set off some alarm bells among the Porsche faithful, but Road & Track confirmed with a spokesperson for the shop that a genuine production car is planned to make its debut this summer. We will withhold ultimate judgement until that takes place, but there does appear to be a real plan to build these things. As with all of the shop's creations, the customer will have the ultimate say as to how these machines will look; that said, Signature has already stated that it doesn't want to disrupt the iconic shape of the G-body 911, so we don't expect to see too much differentiation in the bodywork itself. Restraint is a virtue, after all.You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
