Report: Volvo's Bestseller Will Be Refreshed SoonVolvo (Volvo)The Volvo XC60 will soon be getting a significant refresh, according to a report by Automotive News.Along with revised styling and new technology, the plug-in hybrid version of Volvo's bestselling model will have a lot more pure-electric range. The XC60 PHEV's electric driving range could reportedly approach 100 miles, nearly double its current 35-mile EPA estimate. The Volvo XC60 is the brand's bestselling vehicle, and it was just refreshed for the 2026 model year. However, Volvo will reportedly give the compact luxury SUV another more significant update in the near future, according to a report by Automotive News.It feels like just yesterday that Volvo gave the XC60 a new grille, darker taillights, and a larger infotainment touchscreen. While all those improvements helped make the aging ute look more modern, the Swedish automaker apparently believes it needs to do even more to keep it competitive in a hotly contested segment, especially when it comes to the hybrid model.Volvo (Volvo)The XC60 PHEV is expected to receive a bigger battery that will notably increase its electric-only driving range. Currently, the 2026 model has an EPA-estimated range of 35 miles, which is outpaced by rivals like the hybrid Mercedes-Benz GLC-class and its 54-mile range. If AN's sources are to be believed, the refreshed plug-in-hybrid XC60 could double or even triple its range, possibly netting an estimate near 100 miles.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe SUV's extended range would also reportedly be combined with a makeover that could bring slimmer headlights, a different grille, and possibly an interior layout and technology that aligns with the Volvo EX60 EV. These changes, along with the PHEV's boosted range, could help the XC60 stay popular until its replacement arrives by the end of the decade.Starting in January, the XC60 will be built in the United States for the first time at Volvo's factory in South Carolina. There it will join the electric EX90, the Polestar 3, and eventually the next-gen mid-size three-row XC90. Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson also recently told Car and Driver that an extended-range PHEV powertrain like the one found on the Chinese-market XC70 is being considered for U.S. audiences, meaning it could be a candidate for the future XC60.➡️ Skip the lot.
