Genesis recently showcased a forward-focused lineup of concepts, but allegations arose that the striking Genesis Magma GT concept showcased was merely a reskinned Chevrolet C8 Corvette. While the Genesis concept's underpinnings were never disclosed, this would hardly be the first time a Corvette has served as the basis for another manufacturer's concept and production cars. An obscure, yet fascinating example, is the N2A Motors Anteros. Let's take a closer look at this odd coupe and convertible and a handful of other cars based on the 'Vette. N2A Motors Had A History Of Reskinning Cars N2A MotorsN2A stands for "No Two Alike." Founded in 2004 by Gene Langmessey and Fred Kanter, N2A Motors was based in California, where the company focused on custom-built vehicles inspired by retro-styled vehicles of the past. According to the founders, the company's purpose was to revive American coachbuilding, which was a staple of the early 20th century. The automaker was around long enough to release just four distinct models because a larger company acquired it in 2020.Our vision at N2A is to take everything that we love about our favorite classic, retro, and modern sports cars, and build them into new vehicles with state-of-the-art performance, safety, and reliability.- said the company descriptionThe 789 model (pictured above) helped establish N2A. The vehicle was a retro-styled rendition of the C6-generation Corvette that mimicked the famous appearance of the 1955, '56, and '57 Chevrolets. Later, the company would look towards 1960s European sports coupes as the inspiration for the Anteros. Named After The God Of Requited Love BringATrailerFamiliar with Greek mythology? Here's a fact to add to your trivia toolbox. Anteros is the Greek god of requited love and, in some instances, the avenger of unrequited love. Typically, this Greek god is depicted as a young man with long hair and butterfly wings, wielding a bow and arrow. Anteros was also the name of one of N2A Motors' main models. Like the rest of N2A Motors' models, the Anteros was based on the C6-generation Chevrolet Corvette.Although it retained the Corvette's underpinnings, the Anteros adopted a more rounded exterior design inspired by classic Italian coupes, particularly ones from Maserati. Each example, intended to be unlike any other N2A Anteros model built, required roughly 12 weeks of work.BringATrailer N2A Motors began the design process by stripping the Corvette to bare metal before adding the Anteros' carbon-composite skin, which typically required roughly 800 hours of work. N2A replaced the C6-generation Corvette's angular bodywork with rounded panels and softer body lines as part of a significant exterior design overhaul. Inside, N2A Motors ditched the standard C6 Corvette arrangement. It added re-contoured seats, a leather-upholstered dashboard, new carpets, and tweaked interior panels.BringATrailer The changes to the exterior and interior design were significant and worth noting, but the most exciting were to the Anteros' powertrain. At the core of the N2A Anteros was either an LS2, LS3, or LS7 V8 engine. The least powerful of the three sent 400 horsepower to the rear wheels. Examples with the Lingenfelter-tuned performance package produced upwards of 1,000 hp. One Example Was Auctioned Off Not Too Long Ago BringATrailer At the time, the Anteros was the most potent offering from N2A Motors. However, as you'd expect, the Anteros' power, performance, and polish came at a hefty price. The car started at $149,500 for the coupe and $154,500 for the convertible. These figures excluded the cost of the donor car, which was $48,565 for the lowest-ranking C6-generation Corvette trim level at the time.BringATrailer At the time, customers could also use the C6 Corvette ZR1 as the basis for the Anteros, raising the starting figure of the retro-styled model to $176,500. Despite that heart-stopping price tag, customers got an eye-catching machine with potent performance. While production numbers aren't readily available, there were likely fewer than 100 examples of N2A Motors' Anteros produced, making seeing one for sale rare. That said, recently, an example of an N2A Motors' Anteros Targa sold for $66,500 in an online auction. The example was finished in Dark Ming Blue Metallic with a removable roof panel. Power came from a 6.0-liter LS2 V8, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Juxtaposing the blue carbon fiber skin was the beige interior, featuring bespoke leather-wrapped seats and light-colored wood veneer panels along the dashboard and door panels. This specific example had some odometer rollback and was based on a standard 2005 Chevrolet Corvette, which likely affected its auction value. While this is a stark contrast to the original price tag of the Anteros model, based on other examples sold, these models typically sell for between $50,000 and $70,000. Another example of the Anteros was listed for sale in 2020 for only $58,000. Among The Coolest Coachbuilt Corvettes Soleil The N2A Anteros was undoubtedly an interesting rendition of the C6-generation Corvette. However, it wasn't the only instance of a 'Vette serving as the basis for an odd-looking car. Another Corvette-based model that doesn't look anything like the one it's based on is the Soleil Anadi (pictured above). The product of Dutch automotive manufacturer Soleil Motors, this was a 651-hp supercar featuring a supercharged LS V8 at its core, allowing the luxurious Anadi to reach 60 mph from a standstill in 3.2 seconds. Accompanying its impressive performance was a bespoke interior featuring high-quality materials, including ebony, rosewood, and dyed leather. Only 300 examples were planned for production, and the unbelievable specs were the reason for its roughly $300,000 starting price.Bertone Around the time that the Anteros was unveiled, Bertone tried its hand at creating a car based on the Corvette. Their take on it was the Bertone Mantide, a concept car based on a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Despite the significantly revised design, it was still lighter than the ZR1 it was based on. Initially, Bertone planned to produce 10 examples of the Mantide, but ultimately, only a single example was built.Rezvani A more recent instance of the Corvette serving as the foundation for another car was the Rezvani Beast. Instead of the C6 Corvette, this American-made supercar relies on the C8-generation Corvette, and for just over half a million dollars, Rezvani will build a car commanding 1,000 hp from its twin-turbo V8 and the ability to go from one end of a quarter-mile strip in 9.6 seconds.
