Hemi V8s are making a big comeback. Ram has been pumping out new, exciting models, like an updated TRX with a ramped-up Hellcat under the hood, and Jeep recently got back in on the action by bringing the 392 into the fold with Wrangler Moab models. Unfortunately for Stellantis, that also means any platforms that traditionally had the V8 are really starting to feel incomplete without it. The 2026 Grand Cherokee showing up at dealers with only a turbo 4-cylinder and Pentastar V6 is a prime example of that. The good news is that Jeep knows it and seems to be addressing the issue. Jeep Hints A Hemi Grand Cherokee Is Coming StellantisJeep recently held a press event giving journalists the chance to check out the new Jeep Grand Cherokee for themselves. While updates to the infotainment system, a new turbo 4-cylinder, and a refreshed exterior are a lot to run on, the lack of a Hemi V8 was the elephant in the room. The Drive probed Joe Aljajawi, Jeep’s vehicle integration and validation manager, asking where the V8 was, and his response was, “I would say for the Grand Cherokee customers that we are listening to you, and then stay tuned for more.”StellantisObviously, that doesn’t outright confirm anything, but the writing does seem to be on the wall. The Grand Cherokee was first introduced to the public in 1993, with an optional V8 being a mainstay all the way until the Hemi was officially removed from the lineup in 2024. Now that Hemis are coming back into the mix, it really only makes sense for Jeep to consider building the Grand Cherokee many buyers want. Stellantis also recently came to terms with the fact that it leaned too far into the EV transition too quickly, absorbing a $26 billion loss as it restructured. It plans to get back to giving consumers more choices when it comes to vehicle selection, with its North American brands being a big concern. That, paired with Aljajawi’s teasing remark, does make it seem like a Hemi Grand Cherokee is on the way. More To Come From Jeep JeepIt’s worth pointing out that the Hemi wasn’t the only talking point Jeep danced around at this event. It also avoided discussing the coming Trailhawk models, saving that for a later date. So, even if the 2026 Grand Cherokee is officially here, a lot of exciting news is about to come down the pike. Mind you, the Trailhawk models historically had access to the Hemi V8, so maybe they’re about to dial up the heat for the off-road segment and then some.
