Test: 2026 Porsche Macan GTS EV Piles On the SugarMichael Simari - Car and Driver06/22/26 UPDATE: This review has been updated with instrumented test results. While it's true that electric vehicle sales have fallen off and battery-powered programs are in flux, Porsche remains hard at work finding ways to inject more excitement into its electric lineup. The 2026 Porsche Macan GTS Electric is now the fifth offering in the automaker's electric compact SUV model line, and it may be the sweetest of them all.Spotting a GTSAs is tradition with Porsche's GTS trim, this hopped-up electric Macan is more evolutionary than revolutionary. A Macan GTS Electric can be identified by its traditional black exterior accents and the unique front and rear fascias, along with a black edge on the active rear spoiler. Later in 2026, that equipment will be available on all Macan Electrics through the Sport Design package.Michael Simari - Car and DriverBeyond the parts it'll eventually share, the GTS sports tinted front and rear light assemblies, plus wider side skirts; it's the only Macan Electric to roll on standard (and otherwise-optional) 21-inch wheels too. With the standard air springs set to Normal, the GTS rests a sporty 0.4 inch lower than its siblings. In our opinion, it's the best-looking version. Standard GTS equipment that the eye cannot see includes an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential.Power UpAn electric motor resides on each axle, with the Electric GTS's rear pilfered from the most powerful model, the Turbo. In most use cases, the motors combine to produce 509 horsepower and around 675 pound-feet of torque. With launch control engaged, an overboost function temporarily increases peak horsepower and torque to 563 and 704, respectively. Employing that launch-control function got the Macan to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, 0.4 second off the pace of the 630-hp Turbo. The gap grew in the quarter-mile, with the GTS crossing the line in 11.6 seconds at 121 mph, or a half-second behind. Those with dialed-in eyes for the electric competition might notice the GTS's performance falls 0.3 and 0.5 second behind what might be its natural competitor, the 641-hp Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which just so happens to cost about half as much.Michael Simari - Car and DriverIn the event a Macan GTS Electric finds its way onto a racetrack, the standard Sport Chrono package includes Porsche's Track Endurance mode. Previously introduced in the Taycan, the mode preconditions the battery by cooling it down to limit potential thermal derating during extended periods of aggressive use.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe GTS Electric utilizes the same 95-kWh lithium-ion pack found in all other Macan Electrics. The standard CCS and J1772 charging ports are still on opposite fenders; when connected to a DC fast-charger, the Macan can slurp juice at speeds up to 270 kilowatts. In our fast-charging test of a Macan Turbo Electric, it took 33 minutes to charge from 10 to 90 percent. Porsche can also electronically split its 800-volt pack in half to utilize 400-volt charging at the more common Tesla Supercharger cabinets. Our 75-mph highway range test of the GTS Electric revealed 290 miles of range, nearly matching its EPA label.Michael Simari - Car and DriverDriving the GTSCalifornia's Angeles Crest Highway is one of the most pristine roads in America. It's replete with increasing- and decreasing-radius corners varying in tightness, fast straights, and heavy braking zones, all of which are prime for sussing out a vehicle's hits and misses. As is tradition, the GTS package features model-specific damper, spring, and anti-roll bar tuning. It only takes a single climb upward to reveal just how well Porsche can mask the GTS's 5426 pounds of mass.Slammed to the ground with the air springs in their sportiest configuration, and with the dampers in their firmest calibration, the GTS carves up corners like an SUV weighing considerably less, especially when equipped with its optional rear-axle steering. Rolling on also optional 22-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa Elect summer rubber helps too. Driven aggressively, the steering is a touch more reactive than we remember in other Macan EVs, and we'd prefer less of a spongey off-center feeling during normal use.Equipped with the no-charge 21-inch Michelin Pilot Sport EV summer rubber, the GTS orbited the skidpad with an average of 0.94 g. With a set of the optional and sticky Pirelli P Zero Corsa PZC4 tires ($660) fitted to the mandatory 22-inch RS Spyder Design wheels ($3010), unsurprisingly the grip shoots up to 0.99 g.Michael Simari - Car and DriverAs expected of a GTS with the largest wheel option and the most aggressive tire, highway expansion joints and harsher bumps make their presence more pronounced. It's nowhere near offensive, however, and back near our headquarters and on the 21-inch wheels those events were more subdued. The standard GTS-specific 18-way-adjustable Sport seats are supremely comfortable while also being supportive.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Sport Plus mode adds a new sound profile that's louder than the standard program. The artificial sounds can be turned off, but the bass-rich track synthesized from the motor noise helps provide vital feedback for gauging speed. It's wild to say that a steady 509 horsepower isn't that much, and it isn't, but the GTS makes the most of it. Porsches are always easy to drive fast, and the Macan GTS Electric sticks to that formula. Braking comes courtesy of rotors and calipers shared with the Turbo; the left pedal is firm without any funky transitions between friction and regeneration. On the Michelins, the GTS stops from 70 mph in just 148 feet and from 100 mph in 306. On the gummy Pirellis, there's a remarkably insignificant difference from 70 mph, but stops from 100 mph occur in 18 fewer feet.Michael Simari - Car and DriverTech CheckFor 2026, new driver-assistance systems are offered across the Macan Electric lineup. Terrible at parking? Porsche is here for you. A transparent front-facing camera view allows you to see that curb that's in the way, like the hood isn't even there. Still unsure how to park? Trained Parking allows up to five parking routines to be stored. Haven't thrown in the towel just yet? Reversing Assist retraces the last 164 feet driven forward, but in reverse. Want to watch it all from the outside? Remote Park Assist controls these maneuvers with your smartphone, which can now also be used as a key.Sweet or Sour?Electrics are a hard(er) sell these days. A sport-focused, compact electric SUV with a $107,650 entry point is an even tougher sell. And yet, while its six-figure cost of entry may sour the deal for some, the Macan GTS proves itself as a certified sweet treat in this niche segment.➡️ Skip the lot.
