Beginning January 1, 2027, newly approved vehicles must provide mechanical releases on both the inside and outside of every passenger door. Existing approved models will have until January 2029 to comply. Interior releases must also be clearly identified says the Associated Press.The rule effectively ends fully concealed, electrically dependent door handles in the world's largest car market.
