The latest installment of classic comedy Super Troopers has just been teased, and an electric car takes a central role. But rather than focus on the benefits of an electric vehicle — no tailpipe, plenty of torque — the car becomes one of the butts of many jokes, according to the new trailer. Gearheads will be pleased to know the movie, which is coming out on August 7, has plenty of fast-paced car action, but the main characters definitely seem to celebrate ICE V8s rather than embracing the EVs of the future. Super Troopers Has A New Modern Patrol Car The original Super Troopers was released way back in 2002, earning a Rotten Tomato "Popcornmeter Rating" of 90%. The movie follows five bored Vermont State Troopers who are looking for excitement, generally at the expense of unsuspecting motorists that they pull over. Then there is a never-ending feud with the local cops, plus the state government is looking to shut them down. To sum up, this is 2000s silly comedy at its best. Now, almost a quarter of a century later, the crew is back, looking slightly older, but definitely not wiser. And this time they have a new patrol car. The EV Comes In For A Kicking In Super Troopers 3 YouTube/ SearchlightPictures and Broken LizardThe trailer opens with a tasty-looking modified S197 Ford Mustang that is drifting around country roads, while the cops chase in a green Dodge Charger from the same 2000s era. The Mustang ends up jumping across a river, Dukes of Hazard stylee. The next shot is of a new squad car being revealed. While it looks suspiciously like a 2015 Ford Taurus Interceptor painted green with lightning bolts on the hood and the badges removed, this is actually supposed to be something far more modern."I give to you…", says the cop in charge, to an excited "wow" from the officiers, as the cover is pulled off, "our first electric patrol car!" The EV part is met with a chorus of boos. "What! Fossil fuels! F@ck electricity! Boo!" If EVs are polarizing in normal society, the response is a unanimous "no" from the cops of the fictional town of Spurbury, Vermont. The Movie Looks Like Joyful Silliness All The Way Through YouTube/ SearchlightPictures and Broken Lizard The rest of the movie is pure outrageous silliness. A lot of it centers around the chaos surrounding Farva’s hugely over-the-top Indian engagement to Thorny’s sister, with Thorny scheming to break up the relationship. Oh, and there is a new drug ring to deal with in their spare time too. There is a lot of driving and car chases too, with the legendary quote: "Cut across, cut across! Tokyo drift, moth@fuck@!". They might not be the best car chases the movie world has ever produced, but they do look like fun. Whether the team ever bond with the EV patrol vehicle remains to be seen, but I would say that it looks very unlikely...
