Leapmotor has revealed the first photos of the B05 Ultra, known as the Lafa 5 Ultra in China. Positioned as a sportier version of the electric hatch, the car is set to go on sale in the Middle Kingdom in the first half of 2026, before being rolled out to international markets.
The exterior addenda includes a jutting front splitter, shapelier side skirts, a more muscular rear valance and a large split tailgate spoiler. The Lafa 5 badge at the back also gains a green “5” to hint at the Ultra’s ostensibly special nature.
No details of the interior as yet (not even that of the standard B05), but senior vice president Cao Li has said that the car will feature extensive use of suede trim, according to CarNewsChina. The Ultra moniker – used to great effect by Xiaomi with the SU7 Ultra – hints at a performance bent and, therefore, higher outputs, but the unchanged 19-inch wheels shared with the regular B05 suggest this is merely a stylistic exercise.
Of course, Leapmotor has yet to release any technical details of the B05 as a whole, but given that it is heavily based on the B10 SUV it will likely share the same powertrains. That would include a base model with 179 PS (132 kW) and 175 Nm of torque, plus a 56.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery providing a WLTP-rated range of 361 km. Higher-end models boost outputs to 218 PS (160 kW) and 240 Nm and feature a 67.1 kWh pack to travel up to 434 km on a single charge.
If the Ultra does indeed become a true-blue hot hatch, it would do well to retain the B05’s rear-wheel drive layout, possibly by using the 2026 C10‘s upgraded motor churning out 299 PS (220 kW) and 360 Nm. That would make it one of the few performance-oriented RWD EVs on the market, and certainly the only one at an affordable price. However, it will more likely adopt dual-motor all-wheel drive to chase its headline performance figures.
