One of Roughly 200: This 1954 Porsche 356 Pre-A Speedster Is the Real DealWhen Ferry Porsche and U.S. importer Max Hoffman dreamed up a stripped-down, lightweight roadster for American buyers in 1954, they had no idea they were creating one of the most coveted Porsche shapes of all time. Only around 200 Pre-A Speedsters were built that first year, and each survivor is now a genuine collector trophy. This particular example carries documented history reaching back to the early 1960s and was cared for by a single devoted owner from 1977 onward. A 2006 refurbishment returned it to its striking Signal Red over tan leather with burgundy piping, with paint by Finish Line of Jacksonville and trim by L&S Upholstery of Gainesville.Mechanically, it runs a 1,582cc Type 616 flat-four built by Porsche specialist Duane Spencer, with a gearbox rebuilt by noted 356 guru Vic Skirmants. A crated, numbers-matching 1,500cc engine comes along with the sale, as do a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a Reutter Certificate of Production, two sets of side curtains, and a clean Texas title.AdvertisementAdvertisementAt the time of writing the bid sits at $91,777 with the auction running through June 15.View the full listing on Hagerty MarketplaceFor more from the auction block, see our latest collector car coverage..⚡️ Read the full article on MotoriousSign up for the Motorious Newsletter.
