Nissan has teased two new concepts for Auto China. One is a hardcore off-roader with lots of ground clearance. Other appears to be a fairly typical electric crossover. Auto show season got off to a rough start thanks to lackluster events in Detroit and Chicago. However, the New York Auto Show was jam-packed with debuts and that trend will continue at Auto China with unveilings from BMW, Hyundai, and General Motors. Nissan is joining them as they’ll be showcasing the new NX8 as well as two concepts. The company isn’t saying much about the latter, but described the vehicles as “another important milestone in Nissan’s transformation towards electrification and intelligentization.” More: Nissan’s New Midsize SUV Costs Less Than A Kicks And Has More Screens Than A Mercedes Marketing hyperbole aside, one of the concepts is a hardcore off-roader. Details are hard to make out, but we can see slender headlights as well as a front light bar with illuminated “Nissan” lettering as well as five glowing rectangles. Elsewhere, there’s a rugged front bumper and auxiliary lights mounted on the hood. They’re joined by meaty off-road tires as well as a ton of ground clearance. Rounding out the highlights are an illuminated roof rack and marker lights on the fender flares. While the concept echoes the upcoming Xterra, it features a unique front end that appears to have a fully enclosed grille. This suggests the model could be fully electric as opposed to having V6 and hybrid V6 engines like the SUV that arrives in late 2028. The other concept is more mysterious, but it appears to be a fairly typical crossover. There’s not much to see, but the model has lighting units that echo those found on the redesigned Leaf. We can also get a glimpse of what appears to be a shark nose front end. While there’s some doubt about that, there’s no mistaking the gently sloping roof and liftgate-mounted spoiler.
