Mercedes-AMGBMW needs to have a bit of a look over its shoulders, as it looks like Mercedes-AMG is coming for it. The performance segment of the Mercedes brand had a great 2025, selling 145,000 units, but it still wasn't enough to match the 213,457 units that the BMW M division sold. That represented a 14th consecutive year of growth for BMW and the M division. But over in Affalterbach, there is a plan being hatched to reel in Gachring as we enter the 2030s. Mercedes-AMG is planning to launch more than 27 new models over the next three years. That is an ambitious plan, and one that will need everything to work correctly for AMG to do it. But it is something that Mercedes-AMG CEO Michael Schiebe is confident that they can do. We already have the GT 4-Door electric coupe, with the GLE 63 and GLS 63 closely following.AdvertisementAdvertisementThis is all with the intention of closing right in on the BMW M division and ensuring AMG is ahead of it in sales as the 2030s approach. Should it be able to do that, it would be a truly remarkable achievement. What We Know About the Future AMG LineupMercedes-AMGAutomotive News and Bloomberg's Hot Pursuit! podcast both offered insights from Schiebe as to what we can expect from Mercedes-AMG. In total, there should be 27 new cars by 2030, with some featuring six-cylinder engines, and others a big roaring V8. Electric AMGs are also here to stay, so don't expect them to go anywhere anytime soon. While the range is expanding, there is going to be a reduced number of engine variants. Currently, AMG offers 10 engine variants. That will be whittled down to just four by the time the new models are all released. But don't despair, as the division is upgrading its six-cylinder engines and bringing in a new V8, and presumably a four-cylinder engine will also remain.Bringing in such combustion engines should also help bring back customers to Mercedes. Many have defected to other brands, such as BMW, as they have been put off by either hybrids or fully electric AMG vehicles. So a change in tactics would be welcomed by many customers. It appears that a new E-Class is also going to make its way to the United States, and may even arrive as an EV in 2028.Can Mercedes-AMG Really Trump BMW in the Sales Statistics?Mercedes-AMGIt won't be easy for the AMG division to beat its biggest rival. The fact that BMW M has seen growth for 14 years in a row in terms of sales is massive, and it isn't going to happen overnight for AMG. But that is why it has put in a target of 2030, rather than suddenly say it will outsell BMW in 2027 or 2028. The addition of 27 new vehicles will certainly help, particularly if V8s and inline-six powertrains are available.AdvertisementAdvertisementWhat else could be part of the new Mercedes range, we hear you ask. Well, the next-generation E-Class should be one of them, and it is expected that a new E-Class wagon is on the way as well. A new E63 Wagon would be the perfect vehicle to take on the BMW M5 Touring. Plus, the long-awaited V8-powered hardcore Mythos CLE is on the way, and that could be a big money earner for the German brand. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
