Following the launch of its fully electric GLC-Class, Mercedes has revealed its sedan counterpart, the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class. With the introduction of both models, Mercedes now has an unbroken progression of EVs from entry-level to flagship. Though of those models, the new GLC and C pack the most advanced electric technology, not to mention enough gadgets and gizmos to impress an S-Class buyer.Mercedes-Benz Styling From GLC And GT XX The new C-Class makes it clear that the GLC has set the template for the brand's styling going forward. A key part of that look is the highly vertical grille panel fitted with a huge three-pointed star. It's clear that Mercedes is trying to move away from the extremely curvy EVs of the past few years in favor of vehicles with a more blunt and brawny feel. That grille can be made more prominent with optional lighting that fills up individual lighting pixels throughout, along with a light-up border.Mercedes-Benz The rest of the car is still rather rounded, including the fastback roofline. Don't be fooled, though, this is just for styling, and likely for aerodynamics, as the C-Class still has a conventional trunk. That trunk also features the distinctive new taillight design first shown on the AMG GT XX concept, which features a pair of round taillights in a black surround that spans the entire rear. These lights, as well as the headlights, also have three-pointed star accents.Mercedes-Benz While not as obviously streamlined, the new C-Class is still impressively aerodynamic. The company claims it has a coefficient of drag of just 0.22. As a quick point of comparison, the Nissan Leaf, the brand's most aerodynamically efficient car ever, has a coefficient of drag of 0.26 in the U.S., and 0.25 with digital side mirrors in other markets. The GLC-Class also hits that 0.26 drag coefficient, too. Some of the credit goes to the lower body, the long fastback roof, and probably the retractable flush door handles.Mercedes-Benz You Had Better Like Screens As we already saw with a preview, the C-Class interior is dominated by screens. There are three different dashboard configurations available, but the basic effect is roughly the same. A massive black panel spans that dash, with cutouts for air vents, and as much surface as possible has some kind of screen in it.Mercedes-Benz The base set up uses a 10.3-inch instrument screen and a 14-inch infotainment screen along with a "digitally animated trim panel" in front of the passenger. The Superscreen option adds a second 14-in. screen in front of the passenger, and the Hyperscreen option uses a single 39.1-in. screen for the whole thing. Those screens can even be supplemented with an 18-in. head-up display with augmented reality navigation directions.Mercedes-Benz Besides the screen, Mercedes claims there's more space for occupants, thanks both to the 3.8-in. longer wheelbase and the standard panoramic sunroof. Apparently, front passengers get an extra half an inch of legroom and nearly an inch of headroom, and rear passengers get nearly half an inch of extra headroom. That sunroof can also be optioned with liquid crystal dimming sections and a total of 162 little Mercedes stars can be added, which will all be illuminated when adding the cabin lighting option. As for cargo space, Mercedes claims 16.6 cubic feet of space in the main trunk, but doesn't say how much space is in the frunk.Mercedes-Benz A number of interior colors and finishes will be available, including black, brown and beige with different wood trims. Seats can have added bolstering, ventilation, and massage functions. Those seats can also be wrapped in various upholsteries, including Nappa leather and vegan options.Mercedes-Benz It Has Loads Of Power And Range Only one powertrain will be available for the new C-Class when it launches. It will feature two motors, one up front, and one at the rear, and the combined output comes to 482 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, the same as in the electric GLC. Mercedes also says this C-Class, the C 400 4Matic Electric, will get to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 130 mph. Those numbers also beat those of its arch-rival, the BMW i3.Of the two motors, the front one is primarily to provide a bit of extra power on acceleration, as well as additional traction as needed. In fact, it will disconnect at cruising speeds for efficiency. The rear motor is the primary source of propulsion, and it even gets a two-speed planetary gearbox, with a low gear for acceleration, and a high gear to maximize range at high speeds.Mercedes-Benz Supplying power is a battery pack with 94 kWh of usable capacity, just like with the GLC-Class. It's an 800-volt pack that supports DC fast charging rates up to 330 kW. Mercedes claims a charge from 10% to 80% takes 22 minutes, and it says you can get to about 43% capacity in just 10 minutes. So far, Mercedes has only given range on the optimistic WLTP test, and it's 473 miles. We're expecting that number to drop to around 400 or fewer miles on the EPA test. For reference, the new BMW i3 has an EPA range of 440 miles.Mercedes-Benz Mercedes Isn't Skimping On Technology The fancy sunroof and bevy screens aren't just a technological pastiche on the C-Class. If you want, you can load one of these compact sedans with features that rival the fanciest cars in the Mercedes range. One that we're particularly excited for, are the available adaptive matrix headlights. These can dim specific sections of the headlight beam to provide maximum illumination and avoid blinding oncoming traffic. The C-Class will be the first Mercedes in America with it, and will join a small group including some Rivians and Teslas to have the technology in the U.S.Air suspension is also available, which is combined with Google Maps and infrastructure information to pre-emptively adapt the suspension settings for maximum comfort. It naturally adjusts ride height for sporty driving and for better aerodynamics. Even though the C-Class isn't particularly long, Mercedes is also offering rear-wheel steering, which can shrink the turning circle down to a tiny 36.7 feet. Mercedes is also offering impressive assistance systems such as a voice assistant with access to generative AI for accepting multi-step commands and providing answers, as well as the eventual addition of point-to-point hands-free driving assist, even in cities. When You Can Get One The new C-Class will go on sale in the first half of 2027, so we still have a bit of a wait for it. Mercedes is prioritizing the GLC-Class, just as BMW has prioritized the iX3 SUV, and the GLC will go on sale later this year. The GLC will be priced around $60,000, and based on pricing for the larger EQE, we're betting the C-Class will be priced similarly. We're also expecting both more entry-level and high-performance versions to come later.2027 Mercedes-Benz C 400 4Matic Electric front three-quarter
