Mercedes-Benz just released official information on its all-new electric sedan, which aims to redefine the segment with cutting-edge tech integration, as well as set a new standard for luxury EV capability and class. A little over a month ago, we got information about BMW's new electric sedan, the i3, and with the specs for both now officially available, we get a better idea of how this segment could shape up in the coming years. And Mercedes is making a break for the lead. The All-New Mercedes-Benz C 400 4MATIC Electric Aims To Define New-Age German Luxury 2027 Mercedes-Benz C 400 4MATIC Electric front studio shotMercedes says the C 400 Electric is the most sporty C-Class ever, and while we obviously don't think they meant the AMG models in that phrase, this is great news for the lineup, as its focus on affordability comes at the cost of sporty driving compared to other German models, most notably the BMW 3 Series. The C 400 Electric puts out nearly double the output of the 2026 C 300, at 482 horsepower and 590 pound-feet.Power comes courtesy of dual motors and a 94.5-kWh lithium-ion battery, which offers a range of up to 473 miles, and can replenish up to 202 miles in 10 minutes thanks to its 800-volt architecture.Mercedes-Benz Interior-wise, you get some of the best tech and smoothest materials Mercedes has on offer. This includes the expansive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen and all its AI supercomputer capabilities, as well as a slew of upgrade packages that can easily bring the C-Class in line with the best Benz on the road. From the exterior to the interior, the new electric C-Class was built to place the brand ahead of its rivals, and it does a good job of putting said rivals on notice. The BMW i3 Offers German Luxury In An Inherently Sportier Flavor Front shot of a 2027 BMW i3 Exterior driving down the roadFor generations, the BMW 3 Series has been a staple not only in the luxury space but also in the sports car arena. Thanks to decades of excellent driver's cars, the small 3 Series has built a reputation for delivering a car that feels alive and athletic, no matter the model. With the introduction of an electric variant, the i3, performance takes on new meaning thanks to EV performance and the ability to silently disappear with the slightest press of the accelerator. How These Two Luxury EVs Stack Up Mercedes-Benz At 463 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque, the BMW i3 50 xDrive falls just short of the new C 400 Electric's output. There's also the range conversation, where Mercedes estimates473 miles on the generous WLTP cycle, while BMW estimates 440 miles using our EPA cycle (or up to 559 WLTP).Mercedes-Benz We know that Mercedes is pushing the new C 400 Electric as a model that puts more emphasis on athleticism, claiming a sub-four-second 0-60 MPH sprint. Upgrade packages can be added to enhance its road ability, as well as give itS-Class-level comfort, according to Mercedes. That said, the i3 comes with numerous upgrades that will, from the factory, give it the edge on the road, such as the Heart of Joy performance computer for enhanced precision, a new five-link rear axle, adaptive M suspension, and more.Mercedes-Benz While we don't know how much either model weighs, it's not irrational to assume that the extra power and naturally overstimulating excess of Mercedes-Benz will come with its fair share of weight gain. In that sense, the i3's standard package would likely take the win on the road, but the battle persists beyond the pavement.Mercedes-Benz Interior-wise, both models are going to be up to their gills in tech and luxury trimmings. The i3 sports BMW Neue Klasse design philosophy, which adds features that look like they were ripped from a far-future fiction novel. The C 400 Electric, while also capitalizing on the futuristic vibes, doesn't lose that top-tier luxury aura that comes with anything sporting a tri-star on the hood. In other words, cabin quality and tech pizzazz will be abundant on both; the flavor of each will be down to the buyers' tastes.Sources: Mercedes-Benz, BMW
