Image Credit: kevonstage/ThreadsWhen it comes to big financial decisions, there are all kinds of reasons to have buyer's remorse. From products that don't live up to the hype to things that ended up being more hassle than they're worth, a lot of people have later regretted buying something they thought they would love. For one man on Threads, his biggest regret ended up being something a little more expensive than your average pick. Kevin, who goes by the Threads handle @kevonstage, said that six years ago he leased a Maserati. Instead of being thrilled with his luxe car, he said he quickly discovered that it was a "big mistake."That's because he didn't realize that driving a Maserati was about more than springing for the upfront cost, and he learned that just about everything about driving a high-end car cost more money than he was used to spending. Now, his post is going viral as people talk about how surprised they were by his story, including a few people who couldn't help but laugh at some of the hard learned lessons that Kevin learned during the time he had the car.Luxury Cars Cost More to InsureView on ThreadsAccording to Kevin, his previous car was a 2009 Toyota Corolla, which he owned outright. But when he leased the 2020 Maserati and called to switch over his insurance policy, he was shocked to learn that his premiums would increase by thousands of dollars. When he asked why, they told him that luxury cars are "harder to insure" and more expensive.Routine Maintenance Can Be More CostlyNext, he faced sticker shock when he went for a routine oil change. Kevin shared how he headed to his local Jiffy Lube, which is where he used to get his Toyota's oil changed. But he said he was immediately turned away by the mechanic. When he asked why he couldn't get his standard $60 oil change, he said the mechanic said, "Sir, you have to take this to the dealership. We don't do these kinds of cars here."Once he went to the dealership, he was given a $1,000 bill for the service.Replacement Keys Can't Be Made Just AnywhereLastly, Kevin said he was shocked to learn that something as simple as getting a replacement key made, which he could previously do at the grocery store, also had to be handled through the dealership. Much like the oil change, that came with another four-figure price tag."A replacement key for that Maserati was $1,500," Kevin said. Once he heard that, he said he joked with the dealership, telling them they could take the car back. He said the moment the lease was up, he turned in the car and returned to Toyota.People Couldn't Stop Laughing at His MisfortuneKevin didn't get much support from his followers in the comments. Instead, they couldn't stop laughing at what he had been through."They still talking bout you at that Jiffy Lube til this day," one person joked."A grocery store car key," another person wrote. "They shoulda never let you leave in that Maserati.""Kev was financially rich, but mentally broke. Jiffy Lube oil change on a Maserati is straight blasphemy," a third person wrote. While it's clear that Kevin has made peace with the fact that he'll always be a Toyota man, his story serves as a reminder of how important it is to do your research before you get a new car ... especially a high-end option like a Maserati. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
