A KITT replica recently got a speeding ticket from New York City. The car was actually at the Volo Museum, nearly 1,000 miles away. Offender appears to be using a novelty “KNIGHT” plate to avoid tickets. The Volo Museum is home to over 200 cars including many from movies. The collection also has a 1983 Pontiac Firebird that’s designed to resemble KITT from Knight Rider. While replicas are fairly common, things took an interesting turn as the museum recently revealed they got a speeding ticket for the car. In the letter from the New York City Department of Finance, officials claimed the car was caught going 36 mph (58 km/h) in a 25 mph (40 km/h) zone in Brooklyn. So what happened? The car caught by the speed camera was apparently wearing a novelty California “KNIGHT” plate. That was one of the plates used on the show and it sounds like our speedster bought a novelty plate and slapped it on their car. A quick search reveals you can get one for around $25, but they’re intended for decoration. Someone apparently decided to use the novelty plate to avoid tickets and the attraction got stuck with the bill as they claimed New York’s “official system ties the novelty plate to Volo Museum.” They went on to say this is “100% legit” and note that “KITT hasn’t moved from our museum in years!” As crazy as it sounds, this isn’t even the first time we’ve heard of something like this happening. Last fall, a woman received 15 tickets from all over the country because people used a novelty version of her real California “LUVSICK” license plate. She was stuck dealing with the aftermath and eventually sent the company selling the novelty plates a cease-and-desist letter. She was also able to get the tickets dismissed, but it was obviously a hassle she shouldn’t have had to go through. Well, this is a new one… we got this in the mail today. This is 100% legit.
